Coldwater Season 2: Canceled or Coming Back? The Latest on the Show’s Future
After a nerve-jangling finale and a six-episode run on Paramount+, ITV’s Coldwater has fans clamoring for answers: is Season 2 on the way, or is the case closed?
Coldwater just wrapped its first ride and, naturally, everyone wants to know if this moody little thriller is sticking around. Short answer: it could... but nobody has pulled the trigger yet.
So, is Season 2 happening?
Not yet. The show has not been renewed for a second season, and it has not been canceled either. It is squarely in limbo while the dust settles from its first run.
- Status: no renewal, no cancellation
- Home base: premiered in the UK on ITV
- US release: streamed on Paramount+, finishing on February 13, 2026
- Format: six episodes
- Cast: Andrew Lincoln, Eve Myles, Indira Varma, Ewen Bremner
What the creator is saying
Writer David Ireland has been candid about where his head was at during the process. Back in September 2025, he admitted a second run was not on his mind when he started:
'Because I had never really written this kind of stuff before, I never even thought of a second series.'
Then the story shifted for him as he neared the finish line:
'As I got towards the end of writing the last two episodes, I thought it would be good, if possible, to keep this going because I do find the characters really fascinating and it would be great to keep them going for a few more seasons.'
He also did not sugarcoat how tough the job was:
'It was really, really hard. Writing six hours of TV and drama and thriller is really hard just to find ways to keep the audience interested. Instead of writing one play it is like writing six plays that have to interconnect with each other.'
Even with the grind, he clearly enjoyed the ride and loves the genre, which is exactly the kind of energy you want if Season 2 gets the green light.
Bottom line
Coldwater has finished its first run in the US as of February 13, 2026, and the show remains in wait-and-see mode. No official renewal. No official axe. The creator wants more, the characters have room to run, and now it is up to the folks holding the purse strings. If anything moves, you will hear about it.
