Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was a day-one Game of the Year for hundreds of thousands. Now, after blasting past 5 million sales, Sandfall Interactive is dropping new content.

Expedition 33 is already one of 2025’s big gaming success stories, and Sandfall Interactive just gave everyone a fresh reason to circle back. The studio is celebrating a huge milestone — 5 million copies sold — with new content and quality-of-life updates that add more places to explore, tougher fights to chew on, and a wider audience to play it.

What Sandfall just announced

Sandfall shared the news alongside a thank-you note to the community and a teaser of what’s coming. Full patch notes aren’t out yet, but the official blog confirms the headliner: a brand-new area to explore, complete with new encounters and surprises. The update also leans into endgame challenge and cosmetics, plus a big localization push.

'THANK YOU, from @SandfallGames! We’ve been working on bringing you a few updates, some of the highlights being: 🌳 New playable environment ⚔️ New late-game boss battles 👕 New costumes ➡️ Read more: https://t.co/2grDsMSrOR'

  • New playable environment: a fresh location for the Expedition with new enemy encounters and surprises
  • New late-game boss battles: tougher fights aimed at players deep into the campaign
  • New costumes: additional outfits for every member of the Expedition
  • New localizations: text and UI added for Czech, Ukrainian, Latin American Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian — bringing the total supported languages to 19

Sandfall also says more is on the way, but there’s no timeline or specifics yet. Translation: expect more content drops when they’re ready, not on a set schedule.

Why this matters (and why the timing is savvy)

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launched earlier this year as a Day 1 Xbox Game Pass title and hit basically every major platform at once — smart move for a debut game. It quickly turned into a word-of-mouth hit, regularly mentioned alongside indie juggernauts like Silksong and Stardew Valley. Calling it a 'Soulslike turn-based action RPG' sounds like a contradiction until you play it, and then it just clicks.

With 5 million copies sold and fresh content en route, Sandfall is keeping the momentum going in a year where the Game of the Year conversation is unusually crowded — yes, we’re looking at you, Silksong and Death Stranding 2. Dropping new bosses and a whole new area right now keeps Expedition 33 in the mix and gives both finishers and lapsed players a reason to jump back in.

Bottom line: if you wrapped the story months ago, there’s new stuff waiting. If you drifted away, this is a clean excuse to reinstall. And if you haven’t touched it yet, the best version of Expedition 33 keeps inching forward.
