Christopher Reeve’s Hidden Gem Is Finally Getting a 4K Restoration
Kino Lorber is bringing Christopher Reeve's cult time-travel romance Somewhere in Time to 4K UHD, letting its cross-century love story dazzle in its sharpest presentation yet.
Christopher Reeve will always be the movies' Superman, but the guy had range. Case in point: Somewhere in Time, the swoony 1980 time-travel romance he made with Jane Seymour. It is finally getting a full-on 4K upgrade, and if you love this movie, this is the version you want.
Kino Lorber is putting out a new ultra-high definition release of Somewhere in Time, with a street date of February 10. Blu-ray.com flagged the listing, and the package is loaded like a love letter to the film and the fans who have kept it alive for decades.
The movie (quick refresher)
Directed by Jeannot Szwarc, Somewhere in Time stars Christopher Reeve as Richard Collier, a playwright who, in 1972, becomes fixated on a photo of early-1900s stage star Elise McKenna (Jane Seymour) while staying at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan. With a nudge from a friend and some very committed hypnosis, he wills himself back in time to meet her. The two click fast, which does not sit well with Elise's controlling manager, played by Christopher Plummer. Teresa Wright and George Voskovec co-star.
'Richard travels in time to meet Elise, and the two appear destined to be together.'
Yes, the time travel is via self-hypnosis. Yes, it is a romance that goes all-in on its vibe. And yes, it has a devoted fanbase for a reason.
