After a sneak peek played with Jurassic World Rebirth, Universal is locking in the release date for the first full trailer for The Odyssey, while Christopher Nolan’s epic remains set for theaters on July 17, 2026.

Universal quietly slipped a first look at Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' in front of 'Jurassic World Rebirth' in theaters, and now it sounds like the studio has a plan for the real trailer. The movie itself is still locked for July 17, 2026. The trailer? That might be coming sooner than you think.

So when do we actually see the trailer?

Per World of Reel, Universal is aiming to drop 'The Odyssey' trailer ahead of 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' when that hits theaters on December 19. Not officially announced, but the logic tracks: attach your big, expensive Nolan epic to the biggest holiday crowd-pleaser and let the foot traffic do the work. Speaking of expensive, the same report says Universal is in for about $250 million on this one, which would make it Nolan's priciest film to date.

What is Nolan's 'The Odyssey'?

Nolan wrote and directed this take on Homer's classic, and the project is set up at Universal again after their monster run with 'Oppenheimer' starring Cillian Murphy. He and Emma Thomas are producing, and the studio is selling it as a large-scale, full-throttle spin on ancient myth.

"Mythic action epic."

Cast, scope, and all that

Matt Damon leads as Odysseus. The ensemble is stacked: Robert Pattinson, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong'o, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, Himesh Patel, Samantha Morton, Will Yun Lee, and more. If you're counting, that's a lot of movie stars, which probably explains part of that budget.

Quick refresher on the story

In Homer's poem, Odysseus is the king of Ithaca trying to get home after the Trojan War. Everyone back home assumes he's dead, which leaves his wife Penelope and their son Telemachus fending off a crowd of would-be replacements. Expect gods, monsters, and a brutal commute.
