Months of whispers about a Chris Jericho WWE return just got louder: after tight-lipped silence from both sides, Jericho’s fresh tease hours ago reignited the comeback buzz.

If you follow WWE even casually, you have probably heard the whispers: Chris Jericho might be headed back. Nobody at WWE is saying a word, and Jericho himself has been just as quiet. But he did just toss gasoline on the rumor fire with an Instagram post standing shoulder to shoulder with Kevin Owens, calling him his 'best friend' in real life. Naturally, that sent everyone straight back to one of the most entertaining partnerships WWE ran in the last decade.

Quick refresher: the Jericho–Owens bromance that blew up

  • August 1, 2016 (Raw): Jericho was beefing with Enzo Amore and Big Cass and claimed he had backup, even throwing out a made-up name. Owens crashed the segment to make it official with a simple promise: "I got your back." (as covered by Heavy)
  • August 8, 2016 (Raw): Jericho formally declared the friendship. From there, the two ran as a unit for over six months, a run that was equal parts hilarious and cutthroat, with plenty of momentum-swinging interference in big matches.
  • September 2016: Enter 'The List.' Jericho began keeping a running tally of people in WWE who, in his view, were not doing their jobs. Raw GM Mick Foley was the first name on it after he stirred up trouble between Jericho and Owens. The bit caught fire because every time Jericho barked "You just made the list," the crowd went with him.
  • February 13, 2017: The end. At the infamous Festival of Friendship, Owens turned on Jericho and nuked the partnership in spectacular fashion (the segment is up on WWE's YouTube).

So yeah, a fresh photo of those two together will make any fan wonder if a sequel is in the cards. Maybe. But not everyone thinks that is the move.

One veteran's pitch: forget the reunion, give Jericho to LA Knight

On a Busted Open Podcast episode that dropped two days ago, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray (who also mentors at LFG) floated a different idea: if Jericho comes back, plug him straight into a program with LA Knight. The way he put it:

"I would bring Chris Jericho back to the WWE just to work with LA Knight. If you told me that that was the only thing he was going to do for one year, that’s a good enough reason alone."

Ray did not spell out the beats of that feud, just the headline: Jericho vs. Knight for as long as it works. It is a clean, fan-forward pitch, even if it runs counter to the nostalgia play everyone expects when you see Jericho and Owens in the same frame again.

Where this actually stands

Bottom line: there is no official word from WWE or Jericho. All we have is an Instagram reunion photo, a lot of speculation, and one strong alternate storyline suggestion from Bully Ray. If the return happens, do you want the friendship saga back for another round, or are you into the LA Knight feud idea more? Drop your take below.
