Thor 5 Hangs In The Balance As Chris Hemsworth Drops One Big Condition

Chris Hemsworth isn't locking in Thor 5 just yet. The actor made it clear the hammer won't be swinging again unless one key factor lines up — and fans are already speculating what that could mean for Marvel's future.
Marvel is gearing up to throw a whole new pile of heroes at a very old problem in 'Avengers: Doomsday' — the kind that lives in Latveria. And if anyone ends up steering that ship, it sure feels like it could be Thor. Founding Avenger, thousands of years old, still Chris Hemsworth. The question is what happens to the Asgardian after that. Thor 5? Maybe. Maybe not.
The 'Doomsday' setup
'Avengers: Doomsday' is bringing a mix of familiar faces and fresh recruits, all seemingly aimed at the ruler of Latveria. Thor is a logical field leader for that kind of fight — he was there at the start and, you know, he is built for boss battles. But Marvel has not said what comes next for him beyond this team-up.
So, is Thor 5 actually a thing?
Hemsworth was asked exactly that while chatting with the BBC about his documentary series 'Limitless.' His answer was classic careful-but-honest MCU talk: they are still figuring it out.
"I don't know. We'll see where [Avengers: Doomsday] goes. We're sort of unpacking all of that as we speak and figuring out where each of these characters goes."
Translation: plans exist, but the whiteboards are still messy. Inside baseball-wise, that tracks with Marvel recalibrating character arcs as they move into the next phase.
About that course-correct after 'Love and Thunder'
A fifth Thor would not be shocking. Hemsworth has said he is into it — mug-smash energy implied — and there is a clear opportunity to tighten the tone after 'Thor: Love and Thunder.' That movie took heat for leaning too hard into comedy and sidelining some characters. Hemsworth has not ducked that criticism.
"I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself. I didn't stick the landing."
Where Hemsworth's head is at
He has played Thor for 14 years and still sounds game if the story is there. Last year, he told ComicBook:
"Hey, mate, I have loved every second working in the Marvel Universe, and if there's more to come, then I'm excited about it. Nothing official yet. I'm sort of waiting for the phone call and waiting for the news to see, let's see what happens. But, you know, I love it."
- 'Avengers: Doomsday' pulls in old and new heroes, targeting Latveria's ruler.
- Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is a prime candidate to lead, as a founding Avenger and the oldest guy in the room by a few millennia.
- Asked by the BBC about a fifth solo film, Hemsworth said Marvel is still 'unpacking' where everyone goes after 'Doomsday.'
- He is open to Thor 5, especially after the mixed reaction to 'Love and Thunder' and his own desire to recalibrate.
- Release date check: 'Avengers: Doomsday' hits theaters December 18, 2026.
Bottom line: Thor 5 is not a yes, not a no. For now, the next time we see the hammer swing is 'Avengers: Doomsday' in December 2026.
