The Gambit actor is still stunned by Avengers: Doomsday, hailing it as a franchise-defining feat that reset the bar for superhero spectacle.

Marvel is keeping Avengers: Doomsday locked in a vault, but Channing Tatum clearly missed the memo about playing it cool. The Gambit actor is out here hyping the MCU crossover like it is the Super Bowl, and honestly, after what he just teased, I get it.

Tatum is calling his shot

Tatum told Deadline he thinks this thing is going to blow the doors off next year's box office. Not in a gentle way. In a put-your-flag-in-the-ground way:

"Look, everyone in the world is going to see this movie... This will be the biggest movie of next year and maybe even the next 10 years."

Bold. But here's why he says that: he read the early script, then watched it get built on set, and it sounds like he could not believe what he was seeing. He described the scale as massive and admitted he was wondering how the Russo brothers were even going to pull it off. His words for the challenge: like climbing Everest. He's still buzzing from it.

Gambit is not just there to toss a few cards

If you were worried Tatum's Gambit would be a cameo and a cool trench coat, he shut that down. He says he's doing a ton of action in the movie. There was one sequence where he pulled a hamstring and got sidelined for a bit, but he called that moment a small piece of a much bigger thing. Read between the lines and it sure sounds like the X-Men are very involved and getting their hands dirty.

And because this production loves a curveball, the last solid hint about a set-piece came from Nightcrawler actor Alan Cumming, who seemed to let slip that there's a brawl between the X-Men and the Fantastic Four in the mix. That is the kind of nerdy detail that will melt a theater if it actually happens.

He thinks it can beat Deadpool & Wolverine on crowd-pleasers

Earlier this year, Tatum was already saying Doomsday might outdo Deadpool and Wolverine on sheer audience-pleasing moments. Considering how loud that movie played in theaters, that's like promising the encore will be louder than the show. Again: big swing.

The wild Gambit footnote

While we're here: remember Tatum's long-gestating solo Gambit movie that never happened? At one point, there were plans for, uh, mutant sex in that. Different era, different vibe.

The essentials

  • Avengers: Doomsday is the next big MCU crossover and is being kept under tight wraps.
  • Channing Tatum plays Gambit and says he's heavily involved in the action; he briefly paused filming after a hamstring injury during one scene.
  • Tatum raved about the script's scale and what the Russo brothers are attempting, calling it an Everest-level challenge.
  • He believes it will be the biggest movie of 2026 and maybe the next decade.
  • Alan Cumming recently hinted at an X-Men vs. Fantastic Four showdown sequence.
  • Tatum has suggested Doomsday could top Deadpool & Wolverine for crowd-pleasing moments.
  • Long-ago, Tatum's scrapped Gambit solo film once included plans for mutant sex.
  • Robert Downey Jr is playing Doctor Doom, with a stacked lineup of Marvel faces from past and present joining in.
  • Release date: December 18, 2026.

Bottom line

Hollywood hype is cheap, but Tatum sounds genuinely gobsmacked by what he read and shot. If half of this pays off on screen, Doomsday could be the chaotic, character-stuffed event Marvel needs right now.
