Chainsaw Man Movie Unleashes A Wild Opening: Denji, Aki, And Power Return With A Killer Theme And Animation That Tops The Anime

Rev those chainsaws — the opening sequence for Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc just dropped, slicing out a blood-soaked first look at Reze and the chaos to come.
Sony just pulled the classic pre-release move: drop the opening sequence, watch the hype spike. With Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc headed to US theaters on October 24, the distributor has put the film's title sequence online, theme song and all. It does exactly what an opening is supposed to do: it looks fantastic and it makes you want the rest immediately.
The opening is a flex
Right away, it looks like a clear step up from the already slick TV anime. Backgrounds are more intricate, character renders are sharper, and there is a gleefully trippy streak running through the visuals. The track scoring it, 'Iris Out' by Kenshi Yonezu, absolutely slaps and sets the tone fast.
Character-wise, the trio is very much back in motion: Denji and Aki literally hauling Power along is a perfect little character beat, and there is plenty of Denji cutting loose in full Chainsaw Man mode. The whole thing leans into wild, weird imagery without losing the fun.
- Opening sequence released by distributor Sony Pictures ahead of the movie
- Theme song: 'Iris Out' by Kenshi Yonezu
- Visuals: more detailed backgrounds, slicker character art, and a playful, psychedelic edge
- Denji, Aki, and Power are front and center; Chainsaw Man chaos very much present
So what is the Reze Arc?
This is the franchise's first time on the big screen, and it picks up from the anime's momentum while shifting into the Reze storyline. Quick refresher if you need it: Denji started off hunting devils for the yakuza to chip away at the debt his parents left him. That gig ended with the yakuza betraying him and having him killed. In his final moments, his chainsaw-pup Pochita made a deal, merged with him, and turned Denji into Chainsaw Man.
Where the movie drops us: there is a three-way collision course between devils, hunters, and some not-so-obvious enemies. Into that mess walks Reze, a mysterious girl who flips Denji's world in a hurry. The fights get nastier, the stakes get messier, and yes, feelings are involved. Think love as accelerant, with the rulebook tossed out the window.
'For the first time, Chainsaw Man slashes his way onto the big screen.'
