This change is consistent with the book source.

Season 3 of Netflix's The Witcher turned out to be no less controversial than its predecessor. While it proved to be more faithful to Andrzej Sapkowski's book series, many fans were still ultimately disappointed with the series. Of course, the sentiment was fueled by the news of the departure of the show's lead actor, Henry Cavill, who played Geralt of Rivia in Seasons 1 through 3.

But despite Cavill's exit, we can already predict that the next season will be a more masterful adaptation of the source material. The second part of Season 3 was partly based on the third novel of the saga, Baptism of Fire, and it seems that the writers have decided to explore the book further in the upcoming installment. This is suggested by the change they made in the Season 3 finale.

This material contains spoilers, so we strongly recommend that you either watch Season 3 or read Sapkowski's novels before reading on.

In Part 2 of Season 3, which hit Netflix on July 27, we are introduced to archer Milva, whom Geralt and Jaskier meet in Brokilon Forest. The season concludes with a scene where the three of them watch the setting sun before they embark on a journey in search of Ciri, who Geralt believes is being held hostage by Nilfgaard.

According to Redanian Intelligence, when Season 3 began filming in April 2022, it was supposed to end with an extra scene, in which the trio would be followed by Nilfgaardian scout Cahir (Eamon Farren), who is also looking for Ciri. However, the creators decided to cut the scene, presumably to make the show more source-accurate.

If the next installment follows Baptism of Fire, Cahir will have to join Geralt's group sooner or later. Unlike the deleted scene, the circumstances of their meeting in the book better convey the relationship dynamics between the witcher and the Nilfgaardian knight, and also lead to the latter's ultimate redemption.

In Netflix's show, Cahir was last seen during the Thanedd coup, fighting the Scoia'tael and rescuing Ciri. According to the book, he voluntarily surrendered to the Scoia'tael, who were to deliver him to Nilfgaard, as Cahir was accused of treason for allegedly delivering a false Ciri to Emhyr.

Cahir was rescued from captivity by Geralt's team on their way to Nilfgaard. To their surprise, they found Cahir tied up in one of the coffins. Geralt threw a dagger at him so that he could free himself, and warned Cahir that he would kill him if he followed the group. Nevertheless, Cahir eventually disobeyed and joined Geralt's company.

It seems like we're going to see this storyline properly adapted in Season 4, which certainly makes fans of Sapkowski's novels more excited for the upcoming installment.
