The next Jumanji could roll the dice on nostalgia, linking back to Robin Williams' original.

Jumanji is heading back into the jungle one last time. The new movie is officially in production, and yes, this is the finale for the current run. Big news, a little bittersweet.

The official Jumanji account announced it on November 12, 2025 with a very on-brand post and a reunion photo of the core four — Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan — perched together on a panel in Los Angeles. Shortly after, Johnson jumped on Instagram to confirm they will be filming in LA soon and to drop the real curveball: this is the end of the line for this era of Jumanji.

"What a massive, fun, heartfelt adventure. Feels emotionally appropriate for our beloved JUMANJI franchise to end on this beautiful grace note of our final film."

Johnson also teased some heavy 90s nostalgia. His post included a close-up of the original 1995 movie poster and a necklace with a dice pendant — not random props. He spelled it out:

"The significance of the dice in the last picture is a little Easter egg that my character, Dr. Smolder Bravestone, wears on a necklace in our final film. It’s the dice from the original 1995 JUMANJI and a way of paying homage, love, and respect to the great Robin Williams."

That dice detail is a pretty loud signal. The recent films — 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level — shifted the concept to a video game. Pulling in a piece of the 1995 board game suggests the story might loop back to the original mythology, or at least tip its hat in a meaningful way. If this really is the last chapter for this crew, bringing it full circle makes sense.

  • Director: Jake Kasdan
  • Writers: Jake Kasdan, Jeff Pinkner, Scott Rosenberg
  • Main cast: Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan
  • Returning players (from the real-world teen ensemble): Alex Wolff, Ser'Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner
  • Production status: Officially in production; filming to begin in Los Angeles soon
  • Release date: December 11, 2026
  • Numbering confusion solved: It’s the third entry in the modern run, fourth overall if you count the 1995 original

If you have whiplash from the whole Jumanji 3 vs. Jumanji 4 thing, here is the clean version: this is the third movie with the Johnson/Black/Hart/Gillan team, but the fourth Jumanji movie including the Robin Williams classic. And per Johnson, it is designed to be the sendoff.

Bottom line: production is rolling, LA is the backdrop, the cast is intact, and the franchise is teeing up a finale with a clear nod to where it all began. The dice are literally in play.
