James Bond speculation just found a new target: Callum Turner. With Daniel Craig’s tux back on the hanger, fans are pushing Turner to the front of the 007 rumor mill.

We are once again asking: who is the next James Bond? The latest twist has Callum Turner suddenly leading the pack. Yes, that Callum Turner from 'Masters of the Air.' And if you have been hearing Denis Villeneuve linked to the franchise, you are not alone — more on that in a second.

Why Turner just jumped to the front

This bump is not coming out of nowhere. Time+Tide flagged new odds from betting site VegasInsider, and Turner has moved into the top spot. The numbers do not crown anyone, but they do show where the money is going right now — and it is going to Turner.

  • Callum Turner: +262 odds, which VegasInsider pegs at roughly a 27.6% chance
  • Aaron Taylor-Johnson: 26.3% probability; worth noting he recently became an Omega brand ambassador, and Bond famously wears Omega in the films, which has only fueled chatter
  • Henry Cavill: 11.6%
  • Theo James: 9.4%
  • Jack Lowden: 6.1%
  • Harris Dickinson: 6.1%
  • Eddie Redmayne: once in the conversation, now dropped out of the listed contenders

VegasInsider explained why Turner has been climbing for a while and just passed Aaron Taylor-Johnson:

"Callum Turner has been a steady presence in the Bond betting odds for years. Once considered an outside contender, he gradually worked his way into the top ten, and in recent months his momentum has only increased. Now, for the first time, he has overtaken Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the frontrunner to become the next 007 with odds of +262. Turner fits many of the qualities the producers are said to be seeking: he is British, his career is on the rise, and he isn’t a household name yet."

Wait, is Denis Villeneuve really directing the next Bond?

His name is being thrown around for the franchise’s next big move. That said, there has been no official announcement about a director — same goes for the actor. So file Villeneuve under exciting, but unconfirmed.

Where things actually stand

Daniel Craig stepped away and the speculation machine never turned off. Turner now sits at the top of the betting boards, Taylor-Johnson is right there behind him (Omega watch connection and all), and a handful of familiar names round out the field. Fun to track? Absolutely. Final? Not even close.

Bottom line: there is no official 007 yet, and no officially announced director. But if you are keeping score, Turner just became the name to beat.
