It is vital that these relationships be taken to the next level in the final season of ST.

While the ongoing writers' strike and the imminent Screen Actors Guild strike will certainly delay the production of the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, all the relevant decisions have already been made, and it's a question of when rather than if it will be produced.

Given this pause, it's a good time to reflect upon the show's strengths and weaknesses — a significant one being the character dynamics. Over its four seasons so far, Stranger Things has depicted compelling friendships and romances, though not all have been developed to their full potential. Here are five relationships that warrant more attention in the final season:

5. Robin and Nancy

Robin Buckley, introduced in season 3, was a vibrant addition to the ensemble, offering a fresh perspective on the eerie occurrences in Hawkins. Her unexpected partnership with Nancy in season 4 pleasantly surprised viewers, extending beyond fan-shippers and drawing characters out of their familiar settings. We certainly want to see more of this duo's collaboration in the upcoming season.

4. Eleven and Max

In season 3, Eleven and Max forged a close bond, enjoying typical teenage pastimes away from the boys. Regrettably, their friendship saw little development in season 4, with limited screen time together except for the finale, where Eleven revived Max.

We fervently hope Max's well-being is secured in season 5 and her friendship with Eleven deepens.

3. Eleven and Will

Eleven and Will, united through their harrowing experiences with the Upside Down, became literal siblings when Joyce adopted Eleven during Hopper's absence. Although Eleven's letter to Mike hinted at the sister-brother relationship at the start of season four, they barely interacted post-reunion. The upcoming season should explore and deepen their bond.

2. Hopper and Eleven

Hopper has been a genuine father figure to Eleven, and his presumed death profoundly impacted her. Their heartfelt reunion in the season 4 finale needs to be further explored in the upcoming season. Their relationship offers not only a heartwarming narrative but crucial moral and emotional support for Eleven.

1. Will and Mike

Will's monologue in season 4, hinting at romantic feelings for his best friend Mike, added a layer of depth and poignancy to his character.

Although Mike's reciprocation seems unlikely, their friendship should continue flourishing in the final season: we want to see a more in-depth exploration of both characters and for Will to be given the strength he needs.
