Bugonia Star Emma Stone Names the Celebrity She’s Convinced Is 100% Alien
Emma Stone lit up The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, hyping Bugonia, joking that one co-star is 100 percent alien, and dropping breezy behind-the-scenes teases.
Emma Stone stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to talk Bugonia, crack a few jokes, and casually accuse one of her co-stars of being an alien. As you do.
The alien pick
When Colbert asked which actor she could imagine being not-so-human, Stone did not hesitate: Willem Dafoe. Honestly, not a wild swing.
"If it was like, Willem Dafoe's actually an alien, everyone would be like, 'Yeah! Obviously. And a great one!' Like, if they're all like Willem, bring 'em on! Land upon Earth, please!"
Colbert played along, joking that Dafoe is basically an extraterrestrial in a very well-fitted human suit. Stone doubled down, calling him her favorite alien. Fair.
Stone and Dafoe keep finding each other
These two have overlapped a lot lately, which makes the bit even better:
- Poor Things
- Kinds of Kindness
- Spider-Man world: Stone played Gwen Stacy, Dafoe played Norman Osborn
So what is Bugonia, exactly?
Stone leads the film as a high-powered CEO who gets abducted by two men convinced she is an alien on a mission to wipe out Earth. It is a dark sci-fi comedy with a sharp satirical streak and a pretty oddball premise - the kind of thing that lets Stone swing between menace and mischief.
She also went all-in physically: Stone actually shaved her head for the role. To keep that under wraps before cameras rolled and press started, she wore wigs in public. That is dedication - and a fun little secret to sneak past the paparazzi.
Premiere locked
Bugonia had its world premiere on August 28, 2025, in the main competition at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival.
