Buffy's Biggest Missed Opportunity? Killing Off Pedro Pascal's Character
Today, only someone living deep in the woods with no connection to the world wouldn't know Pedro Pascal.
He seems to be on every other hit show and everyone's celebrity crush list.
However, it was not his lovable single dad characters that recently sent the Internet into a frenzy, but a long-forgotten role on the hit supernatural series of the 1990s and 2000s, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
The star of the series, Sarah Michelle Gellar, recently took to Instagram to remind everyone of Pascal's involvement with the project. She posted a screenshot from the Season 4 premiere episode in which Pascal was a guest star and captioned it in the most adorable way.
'When #Mother met #Father,' she wrote, referring to the status of both actors in public space.
This got the fans fired up and going. Viewers wrote in the comments that Pascal's episode, titled The Freshman, was one of their favorite and most rewatched.
Pascal played college freshman Eddie, whom Buffy met on campus and quickly bonded with. The two actors had a palpable chemistry, so many fans were saddened when Eddie was sired (turned into a vampire) by a gang of vampires, and Buffy had to kill him at the end of the episode.
'In an alternate BUFFYverse he survived and went on to become a great love interest,' Evan Ross Katz, known as Sarah Michelle Gellar historian, commented below the post to the agreement of many viewers.
Fans seem to think that Buffy's biggest missed opportunity was to kill off Pedro Pascal's character. If Eddie had survived, he could have been the perfect partner for Buffy, as opposed to Angel and Spike. And here's why.
Buffy's relationships with both Angel and Spike were terribly toxic. Falling in love with a teenager gave the 241-year-old Angel a Humbert Humbert vibe. Add to that the stalking, and you get a big red flag.
Many fans are of the opinion that the age difference was not only creepy with Angel, but also with Spike, especially since Spike was clearly taking advantage of Buffy when she was at her most vulnerable. All in all, both relationships felt forced and wrong.
As for Eddie, the two characters were not only age-appropriate, they seemed to have a genuine connection from the moment they met, and fans feel there was a lot of potential in that relationship. Well, maybe in an alternate Buffyverse, Buffy and Eddie are still happy together.
