Either way, it will be epic.

Summary

  • Season 3 of Bridgerton will be split into two parts.
  • One possible ending of Part 1 is relatively upbeat and happy.
  • The other brims with drama and conflict.

Bridgerton. Bridgerton. Bridgerton. If only the three-call rule from Beetlejuice worked, Season 3 would have premiered many moons ago. Fortunately, there's only a month to go before the third installment of Netflix's beloved period drama premieres.

But even in this upbeat context, there's a fly in the ointment: unlike the first two seasons of Bridgerton, the new one won't be released in its entirety right away.

Although Netflix typically releases its shows in full, the streaming service has a tendency to split new installments of its popular projects in half to build excitement and draw in more viewers. For example, Netflix did this with Season 3 of The Witcher, the first part of which premiered in June and the second in July last year. Now, Bridgerton's third season will be split, with the first half released in May.

Naturally, many fans are expecting some kind of cliffhanger to keep viewers hooked and looking forward to Part 2. And here are two ways it could be done.

The Proposal

With Season 3 focusing on the romance between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington, it's no surprise that fans are most excited about their storyline. The characters have been friends for years. Pen has had a crush on Colin, but she's determined to get over it. Colin has thought of her as almost his sister, but now he's about to realize that his feelings for her are of a completely different nature.

Needless to say, it will be exciting to see how Polin and Colin rebuild their relationship and go from somewhat estranged friends to lovers. And with that in mind, Part 1 of Season 3 could end with Colin proposing to Penelope, and we'll have to wait until the second half for her answer and react to the proposal.

Lady Whistledown

Aside from romance, Penelope has another intriguing storyline. In Season 2, Eloise learned that her best friend was Lady Whistledown, and it caused a big fight between them. Although the Bridgerton girl has kept Pen's secret so far, Eloise holds a grudge against Penelope. So it's unlikely Eloise will be pleased to learn that her beloved brother is courting the youngest Featherington.

As a result, Eloise may reveal to Colin in the Part 1 finale that Pen is in fact Lady Whistledown, and he'll have to process this information and reevaluate Penelope. Or Colin might even confront his love interest about it, and the whole situation might cast a shadow over their relationship.

Which cliffhanger would you prefer?

We'll find out which way it goes when Bridgerton Season 3 premieres on May 16.
