Part 2 of Season 3 will have little to offer in terms of their romance.

Summary

  • Season 3 of Bridgerton is supposed to follow Colin and Penelope's romance.
  • The characters' relationship has developed too quickly.
  • Polin's love arc is not the most interesting this season, even though they are the romantic leads.

For more than two years, fans of Bridgerton have been waiting for Season 3, and it is finally here. The main reason for the excitement of the viewers is the love story between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington, who have been close friends for years. Penelope's crush on Colin also explains a lot when it comes to fan anticipation for Season 3.

Needless to say, viewers expected Polin's journey from friends to lovers to be exciting. And it was, as the four-episode first part of Bridgerton's third season showed Colin and Penelope exploring their feelings for each other and the complications of their relationship. But Part 1 also proved to be rather disappointing, as the characters ended up being deprived of an entire season.

The Progression of Colin and Penelope's Arc Is Too Fast

At this point, any Bridgerton fan will have seen the entire first part of Season 3, which was released almost a week ago, so it will be no spoiler to say that Colin and Penelope end up together at the end of Episode 4, with him proposing to her. And as exciting as that is, it's also the worst thing about Part 1, because the characters simply didn't have enough time to develop their relationship properly.

In fact, Colin and Penelope's romance happened so quickly that you can clearly see the turning point in the season, as Colin had no romantic interest in Penelope throughout Episodes 1 and 2, and was obsessed with her throughout Episodes 3 and 4 after their kiss. And the initially exciting Lord Debling arc shattered in an instant, ruining all the fun. But the problem is bigger than that.

Who Season 3 Is Really About?

Although Bridgerton's third season is supposed to focus on Colin and Penelope's romance, it clearly doesn't. Francesca's romantic arc seems more interesting, even though her own season has to come after Benedict and Eloise's.

Now that Colin and Penelope are together and somewhat engaged, where else could their story go? They are already done, it seems. But fortunately, there's one more thing for the two lovebirds to explore, which is Pen's alter ego, Lady Whistledown, whom Colin has vowed to bring down. It will be interesting to see how he reacts to the truth about LW. But the fact remains that Penelope and Colin's romantic story is sadly complete, and we're only halfway through the season.

Part 2 premieres June 13.
