Will the show have any changes to the carriage scene?

During the long and tedious drought that is the wait for Bridgerton Season 3, you have probably already dipped your toes into the show's source material and read Julia Quinn's Romancing Mister Bridgerton, which will be the basis for the upcoming story.

With many changes already made in the adaptation, Bridgerverse fans are wondering which parts of Romancing Mister Bridgerton will make it to the screen and which will be cut or transformed in some way.

One thing we can promise is that the pivotal, steamiest scene in the entire book will definitely be there. Back in July 2022, when Netflix announced the start of filming for Season 3, it teased that the new episodes would feature the carriage scene.

What exactly is this carriage scene?

Season 3 is set to pick up a few months after the electric Season 2 finale and will focus on the friends-to-lovers story of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope 'Pen' Featherington. But their affair doesn't start as a friendship. It starts with a feud.

According to the official synopsis, after Colin's thoughtless words in the finale, Pen is hurt and decides to give up her childhood crush on the third Bridgerton and find a good husband instead. But Colin is not ready to lose Penelope and sets out on a mission to return her friendship.

We don't know exactly how the romantic arc will unfold after that. But we can tell you what happens in the novel.

One day, Colin follows Pen to a secluded part of the city, worried that she is going unaccompanied. There he discovers that his friend is in fact the elusive gossip writer Lady Whistledown.

In erratic mood, Colin climbs into Pen's carriage to confront her. But their scandalous encounter turns into a spicy make-out session that surprises both of them. After a good deal of kissing, sexual teasing, and even some dirty talk, the two arrive at their destination, the Featherington house, looking utterly unpresentable and disheveled.

That's where the scene turns from sensual to hilarious. As the couple, stunned by what has just happened, get out of the carriage, Colin pulls out... well, Colin, and proposes. His question is so unexpected that Penelope stumbles and falls on her face. Nevertheless, she accepts, and their story develops quickly from there.

Will the carriage scene play out verbatim in Season 3?

Considering how far Netflix's Pen and Colin's arcs have already strayed from their book characters, both the cause and the consequences of the carriage scene will likely be changed in the show.

Colin needs time to process Pen's hobby, which has hurt him and his family in the past, before he jumps to kiss her. And there seems to be no way that Penelope will accept his proposal without being sure that he is all in on their relationship after what happened with Marina in Season 1.

But as long as the show keeps what happens in the carriage as in the novel, viewers are certainly in for the show's most emotional ride yet.
