Bridgerton Characters' Birth Dates & Birthdays: a Complete List
Here's how Shonda Rhimes changed the ages of the Bridgerton siblings for the adaptation.
Netflix's romantic drama Bridgerton has become a massive pop culture hit since its premiere in 2020. So far, the show has aired two wildly successful seasons and a spin-off dedicated to the backstory of Queen Charlotte.
Created by legendary showrunner Shonda Rhimes, Bridgerton is based on Julia Quinn's eponymous book series published in the early 2000s. Many changes were made in the adaptation, resulting in some plot inconsistencies, and one of the biggest of them is the characters' age.
Many viewers find it difficult to pinpoint the exact age of the Bridgerton siblings, since both the books and the show only mention it in passing. Luckily, we have dedicated fans who have read and re-read the novels to find out the birth dates of the beloved characters.
Redditor u/Katelai47 did their own research and found when each Bridgerton was born, as mentioned in Julia Quinn's novels. Here are the results:
- Violet: April 11, 1766
- Anthony: September 18, 1784
- Benedict: July/August 1786
- Colin: February/March 1791
- Daphne: August/September 1792
- Eloise: April 1-19, 1796
- Francesca: April 1-19, 1797
- Gregory: January/February 1801
- Hyacinth: May/June 1803
These are the dates based on the book series, but the Netflix show has made some changes to the ages of the main characters. The first book and the first season of the show are set in 1813, which should make Daphne 21, Anthony 29, Colin 22, and Eloise 17. But while Anthony and Eloise's ages were kept as in the books, their siblings got aged down.
Daphne's age was reportedly changed to 18 for the show so that viewers would meet her in her debut year. Colin was also given a later birth year to be closer in age to his future love interest, Penelope Featherington, who is the same age as Eloise and was born on April 8, 1796.
Violet Bridgerton's age is the biggest mystery of all. In the first novel, she is 47 years old, but the new Bridgerton spin-off makes her much older. Violet is already a teenager in Queen Charlotte, set in 1761, which makes her about 65 in Bridgerton Season 1. Ruth Gemmell, the actress who played her, doesn't look that age, as she was only in her early 50s at the time Bridgerton began filming.
It is not yet clear if the ages of the rest of the Bridgerton siblings will be changed in future seasons. The show remains quite vague on the subject, causing some confusion among fans who prefer to rely on Julia Quinn's books in this regard.
