There are hundreds of celebrities, but only a few true stars. Brad Pitt is an undeniable A-lister whose career continues to fascinate new generations of fans.
Known for his roles in the Ocean's Eleven franchise, Fight Club, Interview with the Vampire, and most recently, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the actor is beloved by millions of viewers around the world. No wonder, as Brad Pitt has many other notable films under his belt.
Doug Liman's spy action comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith is perhaps Pitt's best known work. And apparently, the actor is so closely associated with it that he was asked to advise on Amazon Prime Video's television remake of the cult movie.
Donald Glover Asked Brad Pitt's Advice to Prepare for the Show
It is obviously nerve-wracking to have no one but Brad Pitt play your character in the past. That's why Donald Glover of Community fame couldn't help but ask the A-lister for advice on how to make the role better. Funnily enough, Pitt wasn't very helpful.
'I did [talk to Brad Pitt about the role]. But he didn't give me, like, any real point. He kind of Brad Pitt'ed his way out of it. He just kind of, like, you know, charmed his way [out of it]. He was like, "Yeah, you know, you'll do great,"' Donald Glover shared in a recent interview.
Glover Had to Reinvent the Character
Aside from not getting Brad Pitt's advice, Donald Glover faced another difficulty in preparing Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which he also wrote. He hadn't seen the original movie before he started working on the TV adaptation.
'I hadn't seen the movie and someone was like, "Oh, you should see it if you want to redo it." I was like, "Okay, I'm not a big fan of remakes,"' Donald Glover revealed.
Of course, the actor had seen Brad Pitt's spy action comedy. But Glover decided to take the character in a slightly different direction in his retelling of the story.
'My brother was like, "It's a great date movie. It's like boys versus girls. It's a date movie." And I was like, "Oh, let's just make a… Maybe they know each other as spies and, like, it's just a relationship but with spies, like, that kind of thing,"' Glover said.
And it seems Amazon Prime Video's Mr. & Mrs. Smith does just that.
The show will premiere in full on the streaming service tonight, February 2.
