James Gunn's Superman is finally hitting theaters this week, and while plenty of supposed insiders have been "guaranteeing" cameo appearances for months, early screenings have confirmed just two — one that fans saw coming, and one that no one predicted.

Unlike the trailers, which showcased a pretty broad mix of DC characters, these two cameos were kept completely out of all promotional material. Neither were confirmed by Gunn or the studio, and in typical fashion, the online scoop crowd got more wrong than right.

(Warning: spoilers ahead from here on out.)

The first cameo is Milly Alcock, who will take on the lead role in Supergirl next summer. Her appearance in Superman has been heavily rumored for months — and now confirmed. She shows up briefly near the end of the film, in a comedic scene involving alcohol, attitude, and an aggressively disputed dog.

The second cameo wasn't rumored at all: John Cena's Peacemaker makes a surprise appearance — sort of. He shows up via TV screen, mid-rant, taking shots at Superman in typical Peacemaker fashion. The scene is short and doesn't impact the main story, but it's clearly a nod from Gunn that Peacemaker is part of the new DCU lineup.

This lines up with what Gunn previously teased about Peacemaker Season 2, which arrives on HBO Max next month. He hinted that the new season would overlap with the events and characters introduced in Superman, saying:

"We see a lot of different characters from Superman in the [season], [including] Isabela and Nathan and Sean, and then we see a bunch of other characters later on in the season from other parts of the DCU and from Superman. There might even be one really, really, really big cameo near the end of the show."

That's already fueling speculation that Superman star David Corenswet might return the favor and appear in Peacemaker, possibly leading into the next phase of Gunn's rebooted DC universe.

As for that "really, really big" cameo in Peacemaker Season 2, there are a few likely candidates beyond Superman:

For now, none of that's confirmed — but it's clear Gunn is connecting these projects more tightly than previous DC attempts.
