Blue Lock keeps scoring: Season 3 is officially greenlit, and a live-action movie is on the way with a newly announced release window. The hit soccer saga, born from the manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura and animated by Studio Eight Bit, debuted in 2022 and returned for Season 2 in October 2024.

Blue Lock is not easing off the gas. The anime is getting a third season, and there is also a live-action movie on deck for Summer 2026 — conveniently synced with the World Cup. That is not an accident.

What got announced (and when)

The news dropped at Blue Lock Egoist Fest 2025 on Sunday, where the team confirmed two things: a sequel anime season (call it Season 3) is in production, and a live-action feature is officially happening. The film is slated for Summer 2026, lining up with FIFA's 2026 World Cup, which runs June 11 to July 19 across the US, Canada, and Mexico. Season 3 does not have a date yet, but with the movie locked for summer, expect the new season to arrive after it.

  • Oct 2022: Blue Lock anime (from Studio Eight Bit) premieres in Japan
  • Early 2024: Animated spin-off film Blue Lock: Episode Nagi hits theaters
  • Oct 2024: Season 2 launches
  • Sep 28, 2025: Sequel season and live-action film announced at Egoist Fest 2025
  • Summer 2026: Live-action movie releases, timed with the World Cup (June 11 - July 19)
  • TBD: Season 3 likely lands after the film; if the pattern holds, late 2026 feels like a safe bet

What Season 3 is likely to cover

Based on where the manga is and how the creators are talking about it, Season 3 is poised to jump into the Neo Egoist League arc. If you are not deep into the series lore, that is basically the big next stage where the story goes wider and the competition gets even more cutthroat.

What the film sounds like

Artist Yusuke Nomura teased that the movie will tackle the 'New Hero Wars' storyline, which brings in a wave of overseas players who are somehow even more unhinged than the Blue Lock crew. That tracks for a theatrical swing — bigger personalities, bigger matches, bigger everything.

"The New Hero Wars is finally being adapted into a film. Please look forward to the exploits of these overseas characters, who are even more eccentric than the members of Blue Lock!"

The people making this happen

The anime side remains with Studio Eight Bit. The live-action film is being produced by CREDEUS, the outfit behind the Kingdom and Golden Kamuy movies — a reassuring pick if you care about manga-to-film track records.

The creators are feeling themselves

Writer Muneyuki Kaneshiro celebrated the sequel news and called it a fresh start for the team, promising to come back with full ego and maximum chaos. The official Blue Lock accounts pushed out their comments alongside the announcement on Sunday.

Bottom line

Blue Lock is sticking around, expanding, and timing its leap to live-action with the biggest soccer moment on the planet. Smart timing, loud ambition. Now we wait on that Season 3 date — but pencil in late 2026 unless they surprise us.
