Blue Bloods ended in December after 14 seasons of Reagan family dinners, speeches about duty, and Tom Selleck staring at people from behind a desk. But CBS isn't done with it yet.

A new spinoff, Boston Blue, is set to debut in fall 2025 — and Donnie Wahlberg is back as Danny Reagan, now surrounded by a new cast, a new city, and a lot of fans asking: where's Tom?

The short answer: no one's saying no. But no one's saying yes, either.

In a recent interview with Parade, Wahlberg danced around the idea of Tom Selleck or other Reagans returning:

"New York and Boston are really close. They're not that far apart. I like the way you asked the question. You covered a lot of possible ways for people to drop in on us."

Translation: maybe there's a guest appearance. Maybe there's a FaceTime cameo. Maybe the ghost of family dinners lives on through a Zoom call.

Selleck, for his part, wasn't thrilled about Blue Bloods getting canceled and has said publicly he wanted to keep going. The spinoff moving ahead without him was a surprise — though not necessarily a welcome one for longtime fans. Still, Wahlberg insists the spirit of the show remains:

"Yeah, Blue Bloods is important to the audience, it's important to me, it's important to Sonequa [Martin-Green, Danny's new partner]. She's a Blue Bloods fan. She wants to keep that legacy alive, as well."

For those keeping score, here's what we know:

  • Boston Blue premieres in Fall 2025
  • Donnie Wahlberg returns as Danny Reagan
  • Confirmed new cast members:
    • Sonequa Martin-Green
    • Gloria Reuben
    • Ernie Hudson
    • Maggie Lawson
    • Marcus Scribner

So far, no official word on appearances by Tom Selleck, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, or anyone else from the original Reagan clan. But with CBS milking this franchise for everything it's worth, a legacy cameo or two seems inevitable — especially if ratings need a boost after week two.

In the meantime, if you're looking for answers, don't expect them from the show's marketing. Expect vague gestures at "legacy" and recycled shots of Wahlberg holding a badge.

And if you're still mourning the end of Blue Bloods, all 14 seasons are streaming on Paramount+. Yes, including the Thanksgiving episodes.
