The best sci-fi anthology is already on its way.

In April, Netflix will premiere the seventh season of Black Mirror, a cult anthology series that explores the dark side of technological progress.

Each episode is a stand-alone story in which characters face unexpected and often terrifying consequences of progress. Here's what we know about the new season.

Season 7 Release Date & Number of Episodes

The new season will consist of six episodes, which corresponds to the traditional format of the show: throughout the history of the series, the number of episodes per season has varied from three to six.

According to creator and showrunner Charlie Brooker, two of the episodes will be significantly longer than the rest, with a running time comparable to a feature-length movie.

The official release date is April 10, 2025.

Season 7 Cast & Crew

Season 7 of Black Mirror will once again be helmed by Charlie Brooker, who remains the project's showrunner.

Toby Haynes, who previously directed episodes USS Callister and Demon 79, David Slade, who worked on the special episode Bandersnatch, and Haolu Wang, have joined the cast.

The cast of the new season promises to be truly stellar. Peter Capaldi, who according to him will play two versions of one character, Paul Giamatti, Awkwafina, Rashida Jones, Emma Corrin, Tracee Ellis Ross, Issa Rae, Harriet Walter, as well as a number of other famous actors have joined the project.

It is quite possible that such a cast will help make the new season one of the best in the show's history.

Season 7 Will Feature the First Sequel in the Show's History

For the first time in Black Mirror's history, an episode will get a direct sequel – USS Callister: Into Infinity.

The original episode followed the brilliant but vengeful game developer Robert Daly, who trapped digital copies of his colleagues in a simulation reminiscent of an old-school Star Trek-style sci-fi series.

Although Daly himself died in the finale, several characters survived and will return in the new season. Also expected is a comeback for Jimmi Simpson, whose fate was left uncertain in the original episode.

Season 7 Episodes and Their Plots

The first episode will tell the story of a man who tries to regain his memories with the help of artificial intelligence.

The second episode will focus on the difficult relationship between two former school friends who will be working in the same company. One of them becomes the team's favorite, while the other begins to feel neglected.

In the third episode, Emma Corrin will play a legend of 1940s cinema and Issa Rae will play a modern actress whose digital embodiment is sent into a simulation of the past using Redream technology.

The fourth episode will be a continuation of the interactive episode Bandersnatch. The plot will once again focus on the employees of the Tuckersoft company. The creators promise that viewers will return to the already familiar universe, but will face even more confusing and dark turns.

The plot of the fifth episode remains a secret. It is known only that the main roles in it were played by Chris O'Dowd, Tracee Ellis Ross and Rashida Jones.

The season will end with a sequel – it will continue the story of the USS Callister.
