Bishop Brings Holy Water To The Conjuring 4 Screening In Texas

A theater in Texas took The Conjuring 4 to the next level by calling in a bishop to bless the crowd with holy water before the screening.
Only in horror marketing: a Texas theater brought in a bishop to bless the audience before The Conjuring: Last Rites. Yes, actual holy water. Yes, before the movie. And honestly, it fits this franchise a little too well.
What happened at the theater
A TikTok that blew up over the weekend shows a bishop walking aisle to aisle and sprinkling moviegoers with holy water at the Cinemark Pharr Town Center and XD in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas. People heading into The Conjuring: Last Rites also got small bottles of holy water and prayer cards of St. Michael the Archangel to keep on them while they watched.
Quick bit of context if that detail made your eyebrows bounce: in Catholic tradition, St. Michael is the cosmic bouncer, the protector who fights evil. So, as promo items go, this was thematically on-the-nose.
Who was the bishop?
The bishop in the video appears to be Bryan Ouellette, a cleric who has popped up on multiple paranormal TV shows and docu-projects over the years. Back in August, a post on Facebook said he canceled Mass after Warner Bros. reached out and asked him to be on hand for The Conjuring 4 screenings in Miami, Florida, and McAllen, Texas. According to MySA, his Texas appearance was a one-night thing.
Is this a marketing stunt? Obviously. Is it also unbelievably Conjuring-core? Absolutely.

Inside baseball note: the Smurl haunting is one of those notorious Warren cases that has floated around books and TV for decades, so tapping it as the basis for the franchise sendoff is very on brand. Between that and blessing viewers with holy water, Warner Bros. is leaning all the way into the demonology vibes on the way out.
