Best Roger Moments in Outlander Season 7 Mid-Season Finale, Ranked
Roger is one of the most profound and fascinating characters.
For its nearly decade-long run, the focus of the Starz flagship series Outlander has been on the romantic story of Jamie and Claire Fraser. However, the storyline of the Frasers' second daughter Brianna and her husband Roger is equally fascinating to follow.
While the mid-season finale of Season 7, 'Death Be Not Proud,' mostly revolved around the Second Battle of Saratoga taking place in 1777, fans were willing to travel forward in time to see how Brianna and Roger were coping with their troubles in the 20th century.
'I kept thinking, "Ah when are we going to go back to Bree and Roger though?"' a Redditor shared after viewing the episode. Brianna's husband in particular has found a special place in the audience's hearts, so we invite you to look back at Roger's best moments in Season 7.
3. Devoted father and husband
One of the season's main storylines is the kidnapping of Roger and Brianna's son Jemmy. He was abducted by Bree's colleague at the North of Scotland Hydro Electric Board, Rob Cameron, who discovered the family's time-traveling secret and decided to use the boy to find the Jacobite gold hidden in the 18th century.
Roger was both devastated and outraged when he learned about his son's kidnapping, and that was one of the most emotional moments of the season. It's also admirable how he took care of his family under the circumstances, telling Brianna and their daughter Mandy to stay in the 20th century and risking his life to rescue Jem.
2. Grateful to Buck
Many viewers note that Roger's ability to show gratitude is what makes him especially appealing as a character. The couple was shocked to find Buck, the man who once tried to kill Roger, in the 20th century, but the character served as a deus ex machina, volunteering to help Brianna's husband on his journey back in time.
Roger was evidently thankful to Buck for backing him up on this journey to the dangerous and unfamiliar 18th-century realm. Although he did not thank his time-traveling companion directly, his warm attitude towards the man showed just how much he appreciated his help.
1. Kinship manifested in a moment of danger
'I love how Buck and Roger [hugged] through the stones!' a fan noted on Reddit.
Letting go of their long-standing grudge, Roger and Buck were able to finally accept their kinship and hold on to each other in times of danger. Quite literally, that's just what they did while traveling through the rocks.
In Season 7, the dynamic between the two men once again showed that Outlander is not only a story about love, but first and foremost about family relationships and how they can give you strength in the most challenging times.
