Benedict Fans Rejoice! Bridgerton S3 Will Feature a Pivotal Moment in His Arc
The Benedict actor recently shed some light on the character's fate in Season 3.
Summary
- Season 3 will not revolve around Benedict, unlike Julia Quinn's books.
- Benedict has one of the longest developing love stories in the series.
- Luke Thompson said that his character would have a very important moment in Season 3.
In anticipation of Season 3 of Bridgerton, many fans of the hit Netflix period drama have turned to Julia Quinn's novels on which the series is based. Of course, the books and the show differ somewhat, with certain details changed and characters added. For example, Madame Delacroix is given a much more prominent role in the Netflix drama than in the novels. In general, however, the show follows the same narrative pattern as the source material.
Following the order of Julia Quinn's novels, the first season of Bridgerton focused on the romance between Daphne and Simon, while the second season explored the intense relationship between Anthony and Kate. Season 3 was supposed to follow Benedict Bridgerton and his love story with Sophie Beckett. But the upcoming third installment will center on Colin and Penelope's story instead, which upsets many fans of the second Bridgerton brother. However, there's a reason for them to be happy – Season 3 will feature a major development in Benedict's arc.
A Cinderella Story
Benedict's love story may not be as exciting and sensual as the rest of the Bridgertons', but it is still a very nice use of the classic Cinderella trope. Benedict meets the love of his life, the maid Sophie, dressed as a noblewoman at a masquerade ball, and immediately falls in love with her as they dance. When Sophie leaves, the second Bridgerton brother tries in vain to find her and doesn't recognize her when he later asks Violet to hire the girl.
Needless to say, a big revelation follows and the two live happily ever after. But it takes a long time for the characters to end up together. And it seems that Season 3 will show the beginning of their love story.
Spoilers from Luke Thompson
On Netflix's Bridgerton, Benedict is portrayed by Luke Thompson, who has managed to flesh out the carefree bon vivant character whose sole purpose in life seems to be the pursuit of pleasure. Since he won't be the main character in Season 3, Benedict will likely continue his lifestyle, but the actor has recently hinted that there will be a very important dancing moment in his arc.
'I have to be careful with spoilers or I'll get arrested, but I get a nice dancing moment this season,' Luke Thompson said in a recent interview. 'It's fascinating when you understand these dances as basically like a dating app. They get people to speak, touch, be close – then literally swipe to the next row.'
Obviously, the actor is referring to the meeting of Benedict and Sophie. And if he is, Season 3 will be fascinating indeed. It will premiere on May 16.
