Beloved MCU Star Poised for a Triumphant Return in Avengers: Secret Wars
Avengers assemble again — proof the MCU isn’t fading; it’s doubling down.
Another day, another Marvel veteran casually hinting at suiting up again. After Letitia Wright recently said she is back for Avengers: Secret Wars following Avengers: Doomsday, Paul Bettany just nudged the door open for Vision to re-enter the chat.
Bettany basically said, yeah, the Avengers are calling
In a new interview with The Telegraph, Bettany ran through what is (and isn’t) on his calendar and dropped this little nugget:
I think I’ve got some Avengers duties next year.
That sure sounds like Vision is in the mix for the next big team-up. The chatter around town is that this lines up with the 2027 Avengers movie, which people keep tying to post-Doctor Doom fallout. And yes, the current rumor mill is pinning that Doom on Robert Downey Jr. I know. We’ll come back to that.
He is not buried in scripts, by the way
Bettany also pushed back on the idea that he’s drowning in offers. His words, not mine:
I think journalists imagine we have a mountain of scripts, and that’s not true. It’s not like I’m turning down [director] Alfonso Cuarón to go and do Marvel movies – Alfonso Cuarón just hasn’t called.
Where this could all be headed
- Avengers: Doomsday: Letitia Wright recently said she’s in this one, and then back again for Secret Wars. No official year listed here, but it’s before Secret Wars.
- Avengers: Secret Wars (2027): The big event everyone is orbiting. Some industry talk frames it as dealing with the aftermath of Doctor Doom’s arrival. The wild part: those same whispers attach Robert Downey Jr. to Doom. That’s a rumor, not a studio announcement.
- VisionQuest (Disney+, 2026): This one is locked in for Bettany. Vision headlines his own series, with James Spader returning as Ultron and Ruaridh Mollica playing Tommy Maximoff, aka Speed (Wanda and Vision’s son). It would not be shocking if this show sets up pieces that pay off in Secret Wars.
The interesting wrinkle
Two things can be true at once: Bettany’s 'Avengers duties' tease sounds legit, and Marvel hasn’t officially put out a press release saying Vision is on the Secret Wars lineup. Also, the RDJ-as-Doom talk is the kind of Hollywood whisper that makes your eyebrows hit your hairline. If it pans out, it’s a swing. If it doesn’t, chalk it up to the rumor cycle doing what it does.
Bottom line: Vision looks poised to matter again, first on Disney+ and very possibly on the biggest possible stage not long after.
