Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Epic Finally Gets a Release Date
Elvis is back in the building: after his 2022 biopic hit big, Baz Luhrmann returns to the King with EPiC: Elvis Presley In Concert, a NEON and Universal IMAX event documentary that has locked a limited-release date following its world premiere.
Baz Luhrmann is not done with Elvis. After the 2022 biopic Elvis cleaned up with critics and audiences, he is back with a new big-screen project about the King, this time a concert documentary built for IMAX scale: EPiC: Elvis Presley In Concert.
Release plan
NEON and Universal Pictures are rolling this out with an IMAX-first strategy. EPiC gets a one-week IMAX-only run starting February 20, 2026. One week later, on February 27, 2026, it expands to theaters everywhere.
What you are actually watching
This is not a dramatization. EPiC stitches together long-lost material from Elvis Presley’s 1970s Las Vegas residency, rare 16mm reels from Elvis on Tour, and 8mm gems pulled from the Graceland archive. On top of the performance footage, the film uses rediscovered recordings of Elvis himself talking through his life and career. So yes, it is a concert movie with the bonus of Elvis literally narrating his own story.
'Hearing Elvis perform and tell his story like never before, with the unmatched power of IMAX.'
Early buzz
The doc had its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival and drew strong notices out of the gate. As of now, it sits at 86 percent on Rotten Tomatoes based on 14 published reviews.
Meanwhile, Baz is juggling a saint
Luhrmann is also in pre-production on Jehanne d'Arc, his take on Joan of Arc, led by The Queen's Gambit actor Isla Johnston. He is directing from a script he co-wrote with Ava Pickett.
