Henry Cavill may be unsheathing the claws as Wolverine in Avengers: Secret Wars, with Marvel tipster missminutesborn — touting an 89 percent prediction rate — hinting Cavillrine joins the 2027 Multiverse Saga showdown.

Henry Cavill as Wolverine might not be a one-and-done gag after all. A Marvel scooper is saying he shows up again in Avengers: Secret Wars. If you saw Deadpool & Wolverine, you know exactly which rough-and-tumble variant we’re talking about. Let’s sort what’s being whispered, what’s actually on record, and where this could be headed.

The latest rumor: Cavillrine rides again

Marvel tipster @missminutesborn claims Henry Cavill’s Wolverine variant will return in Avengers: Secret Wars, which is dated for December 17, 2027. The same insider says they’ve been right 89% of the time and posted on December 16, 2025 that we’ll see the 'full version' of the Cavill Wolverine who popped up briefly in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Quick refresher: in Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds’ Wade goes universe-hopping for a Logan. One stop features a pretty battered Cavill-as-Wolverine, cigar and all. Ever since that blink-and-you-miss-it cameo, fans have been lobbying to make Cavill the main Wolverine (aka the Sacred Timeline’s Earth-616 version). That’s the talk, not a studio plan.

How real is this?

As always with Marvel rumors: it’s unconfirmed. The scooper is confident and has receipts on other calls, but until Marvel or the Russos say it out loud, it’s just that — a rumor. Still, it slots neatly into the Multiverse Saga playbook: variants, crowd-pleasing cameos, and a giant finale.

Shawn Levy says Cavill went method for that cameo

Even if Cavill’s Secret Wars return is up in the air, we do know he didn’t treat his Deadpool & Wolverine moment like a throwaway. Director Shawn Levy told Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that Cavill trained himself to handle Wolverine’s signature cigar for hours while staying fully locked into the character.

"I remember he was so committed I mean he was jacked up and he had that disgusting cigar in his mouth for hours, and he was fully in it. I think he might have gotten sick to his stomach."

It’s a wild pivot considering how the DCEU mostly squandered Cavill’s Superman run. The guy slid from Boy Scout to berserker, claws out and mean-mugging, and audiences ate it up.

The other Cavill rumors that came and went

Before this Wolverine talk heated up, Cavill was floated for Richard Rider in a Nova series. That fizzled when Deadline reported Marvel put development on pause. Another fan-favorite idea: Cavill as Captain Britain, which is still pure speculation.

More Secret Wars and Doomsday chatter

@missminutesborn also tossed out a few more picks for the Multiverse Saga endgame, some of which are delightfully chaotic:

  • Nicolas Cage back as Ghost Rider in Avengers: Secret Wars (the insider says a Ghost Rider variant appears in Avengers: Doomsday, but Cage himself would show up in Secret Wars; this was posted December 18, 2025)
  • Five huge returns 'will dance' in Secret Wars, per a December 13, 2025 post: Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, Ioan Gruffudd’s Mr. Fantastic, Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord, and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool
  • The insider also boosted a claim that Kate Bishop, Wiccan, Speed, and Kamala Khan will have major roles in Secret Wars (sourced via @jamesmackwl and reposted by @marvelousgeek__ on December 18, 2025)

Who’s steering these movies and when do we see them?

Both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are said to be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with scripts by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. Secret Wars is currently slated for December 17, 2027.

Bottom line: Cavill’s Wolverine coming back for Secret Wars makes a lot of sense based on the cameo and the fan response, but it’s not official. If Marvel decides to crown a new 616 Wolverine, Cavill just proved he can pull off the snarl, the claws, and yes, the gross cigar.
