Avengers: Doomsday’s Overseas Rebrand Sparks Fan Backlash
Marvel is ramping up Avengers: Doomsday with teasers before Avatar: Fire and Ash, but fans are already pushing back after Brazil’s title surfaced as Vingadores: Doutor Destino (Avengers: Doctor Doom) with a new logo.
Marvel is finally warming up the machine for Avengers: Doomsday. As 2025 winds down and we creep toward the 2026 release, the studio is rolling out early teases — including one that will play before Avatar: Fire and Ash. But the bigger chatter right now is about a title tweak overseas that fans are not loving.
So, about that Brazil title...
A user on X (formerly Twitter) posted an image from Brazil showing the movie branded as 'Vingadores: Doutor Destino' — literally 'Avengers: Doctor Doom' — instead of the 'Doomsday' subtitle being used elsewhere. The same post noted a weird bit of housekeeping: while the Brazilian listing was updated to 'Doutor Destino,' a PDF on the site still had the older 'Vingadores: Destino' (basically 'Avengers: Destiny').
Translation quirks happen, but this one is blunt enough that fans immediately read it as a big neon sign pointing to the villain. Subtle? Not so much.
Fans are not thrilled
- One reply called it the worst title they have ever seen.
- Another suggested 'Avengers: Destino Final' as a stronger alternative.
- Several people said their Spanish-language feeds were using 'Avengers: Judgement Day,' which, to them, sounds better.
- Plenty argued the new title just gives the game away.
'It is not horrible, it is just more straight to the point... like calling Avengers Infinity War "Avengers Infinity Stones" or "Infinity Gauntlet."'
Teasers are on the way — and a familiar face might be back
Marvel reportedly has four teaser trailers ready to go, with one set to run before Avatar: Fire and Ash screenings. These will be the first actual looks at the movie. And, per that first teaser, Chris Evans is said to be back in Avengers: Doomsday. File that under 'reportedly,' but still — big swing.
