Avengers Doomsday Teaser Drops Clue to Iron Man and Doctor Doom’s Hidden Connection
Did the Russo brothers just tip a seismic link between Robert Downey Jr’s Doom and Iron Man in Avengers: Doomsday? A cryptic tease from AGBO has fans racing to connect the breadcrumbs—and bracing for a multiversal shock.
File this under maybe-something-maybe-nothing: the Russo brothers might have just hinted at a link between Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom and Iron Man in Avengers: Doomsday. And while Marvel is playing things close to the chest, a couple of very loud voices are already calling the movie a jolt for the whole superhero machine.
The AGBO TikTok that launched a thousand theories
AGBO, the Russos' production company, posted a TikTok of two team members doing the bees in the trap challenge. Cute enough on its own, except they did it wearing an Iron Man mask and a Doctor Doom mask. That little visual gag has fans wondering if Doomsday is going to directly tie the two characters together. It could just be playful trolling, sure. But given how massive Iron Man is for audiences — and that RDJ is back — the speculation writes itself.
Shane Black thinks Doomsday will jump-start comic book movies
Shane Black — who made one of the MCU's best swings with Iron Man 3, very much a Shane Black movie first and a Marvel movie second — is all-in on Doomsday. He says he doesn't keep up with every MCU release, but he'll be there opening day for this one. And yes, the idea of RDJ playing Doom raised some eyebrows. Black told ComicBook.com he thinks that exact swing is what the genre needs.
"I think he is going to singlehandedly reinvigorate the entire comic book movie industry with that. I mean, it seemed like at first a cynical idea, you know, 'Oh, let's just go back to the well of the one guy that seems to always save us.' But it's going to work. It's really going to work."
Bold claim. Whether Doomsday actually turns the tide after a few rocky years for superhero movies is the real test.
Simu Liu calls it a love letter to superhero films
Shang-Chi himself is hyped too. Simu Liu told ScreenRant that working on Doomsday felt like a love letter to the entire genre — partly because he was surrounded by actors he grew up watching. That tracks with the chatter that practically every legacy Marvel screen franchise might be popping up here. If that pans out, expect something in the ballpark of a No Way Home-style event. Doomsday will also be Liu's return as Shang-Chi, who first joined the MCU in 2021.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently dated for December 18, 2026. If the schedule holds, we are about a year out. Place your bets now: do Iron Man and Doom end up facing off, teaming up, or both?
