Netflix is bringing Avatar: The Last Airbender back for season two, with creator Albert Kim returning alongside Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Ken Leung, and Daniel Dae Kim — plus a wave of new faces joining the fight.

Netflix just dropped a first look at its live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 and, yes, Toph is finally rolling in. We also got a trailer tease, a 2026 return window, and a very stacked cast list that mixes returning leads with a bunch of new faces. If you watched Season 1, the next stretch lines up with the Earth Kingdom run from the animated series, and it sounds like the show is aiming for some of those big, fan-favorite moments.

What Netflix showed

Netflix posted the Season 2 poster on Instagram: Aang front and center, Katara and Sokka flanking him, and Toph joining the team. Appa and Momo made the cut, because of course they did. The caption was pretty direct: "Toph has arrived. AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER SEASON 2. Teaser trailer tomorrow."

When is it out?

No exact date yet, but Netflix says Season 2 lands in 2026. Production on the new season is already wrapped, so the timeline makes sense. With a teaser about to hit, there is a decent chance the premiere date gets locked in soon.

Where we left off

Season 1 ended with the Gaang defending the Northern Water Tribe, only to get a rude reminder the war is nowhere near over. Azula took Omashu and nabbed King Bumi, and a mid-credits stinger flagged Sozin's Comet on the horizon. Translation: things are about to escalate.

What the showrunners are promising

Executive producers Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani told Netflix's Tudum they want to push into deeper character dynamics in Season 2, bring iconic animated beats to life, and also build out story threads the cartoon never explored. They kept the hype specific too:

"For the Gaang, fans can expect more brilliant plans from Sokka, even more masterful bending from Katara, Appa, and Momo to be as fluffy as ever, and Aang to learn a new bending form (or two)."

Who is back, who is new

Albert Kim returns as creator/showrunner, and most of the Season 1 core is back. Netflix also confirmed a long list of new players, including some deep-cut Earth Kingdom and Ba Sing Se names. One unexpected twist: The Boulder is in the mix and is being played by Crystal Yu. Also, Dolly de Leon is pulling double duty as both Lo and Li.

Already thinking ahead to Season 3

Two more castings are locked for future episodes: Jon Jon Briones will play master swordsman Piandao, and Tantoo Cardinal will play Hama. Both are planned for Season 3, not Season 2.

Avatar: The Last Airbender streams on Netflix. Season 2 is set for 2026; the teaser is imminent. Expect bigger bending, messier politics in the Earth Kingdom, and Toph entering the chat like a wrecking ball.
