Avatar looks set to ditch Jake Sully’s signature voice-over, hinting at a bold narrative shake-up in the next chapter.

Jake Sully has been the voice in our heads on Pandora for three movies running. That might not be the case next time. Sigourney Weaver says the next chapter is Kiri’s show.

Kiri takes the mic in Avatar 4

Weaver, who plays gifted Na'vi teen Kiri, told Jake's Takes that she will handle narration duties in the fourth film — and that Kiri’s role gets a serious upgrade.

'I narrate the next one. It is a major part of the saga for Kiri.'

According to Weaver, this was not a last-minute pivot. She says James Cameron told her way back in 2013, when the sequels were first taking shape, that parts four and five would swing in a new direction. Some details may have evolved since then, but as far as she knows, the broad plan Cameron wrote back then is still the plan — with a significant tonal and perspective shift coming in 4 and 5. If you have been used to Jake Sully steering the story, the Toruk Makto may be handing over the mic for a while.

Is Cameron sticking around for 4 and 5?

There has been chatter that James Cameron could take a step back on the next two movies. He is not exactly on board with that narrative — at least not yet. Asked by Empire if he plans to keep directing, Cameron said he is feeling up to it, but he also left himself some runway.

'I mean, there is no reason not to. I am healthy, I am good to go.'
'I am not going to rule it out... I have got to make it in a vigorous way, to handle the kind of volume and energy of the work for another six or seven years... I might not be able to do that.'

So: still game, but realistic about the grind. Translation — he wants to do it, schedule and stamina permitting.

  • Sigourney Weaver says Kiri will narrate that film, and her character becomes central to the overall saga.

  • Cameron says he is healthy and intends to stay on, but admits the next 6–7 years of work could be a lot, so nothing is 100% locked.
  • Right now, Avatar: Fire and Ash is in theaters — and yes, there is an Avengers: Doomsday teaser playing with it for Marvel fans.
