Abel may be excused for his failure of a show.

There is a plethora of multi-talented performers in Hollywood who excel in both music and cinema. Take Jennifer Hudson, for example. Despite not reaching the finals of American Idol, she went on to build a successful career as both a performer and an actress, receiving multiple Grammys and an Oscar. And she's not the only singer who can act.

Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd, has made several cameo appearances in projects such as Uncut Gems and American Dad! before starring in a show of his own. Produced and distributed by HBO Max, The Idol premiered just a month ago and immediately sparked controversy. Full of disturbingly graphic depictions of sex and abuse, it seemed to signal the end of the singer's acting career. However, many people have praised his acting skills, especially in the show's finale.

'He got better as the series went on, and part of it was also just public perception of the character. In the early episodes people thought that Tedros was supposed to be charismatic and intimidating, but just came off as embarrassing. Like the scene where he tries to bully the employee at the clothes store,' a Reddit user wrote. 'Once he challenged Rob with his karate "skills", it became obvious even to the most oblivious viewers that he was meant to be pathetic and gross.'

And then, in the fifth and final episode, The Weeknd showcased the full extent of his acting prowess, developing his character even further. Tedros was given a depth of emotion we hadn't seen before.

'It really all makes sense that he acted the way he did to show what kind of person Tedros was. The show really took off after episode 3. 4 was good and left me wanting to know what was gonna happen. 5 was just amazing, I couldn’t wait to know what was gonna happen,' another Redditor commended. 'Abel really delivered.'

So it looks like The Idol has not doomed Abel Tesfaye's budding acting career after all. In fact, he's reported to be working on a new movie with Edward Shults. No details have been disclosed yet, but we're definitely looking forward to seeing The Weeknd shine in the upcoming production – he's got the talent!
