Twilight standout Ashley Greene is trading vampire visions for scrubs, headlining the medical drama One In A Million alongside Russell Quinn, Elizabeth Tabish, Andy Buckley, and Roxton Garcia.

Ashley Greene is stepping back into the spotlight with a new lead role, and this one is a far cry from vampire baseball. She’s fronting a based-on-a-true-story medical drama called 'One In A Million' that wants to test your tear ducts and your skepticism at the same time.

What this movie is

'One In A Million' is a medical drama rooted in real events about a family holding together when the odds say they shouldn’t. The story tracks how they kept their faith in each other, their doctors, and their beliefs while staring down the unthinkable. Deadline has the exclusive on the project.

The setup and the team

Tanner Beard is directing. If that name rings a bell, he’s one of the producers on 'Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2.' He says he was genuinely shaken by the family at the center of this story, the Kassis clan, and that’s what pulled him into the film.

'The Kassis family's real life account truly moved me when I heard what they went through as a family unit and how they never lost their faith in each other, faith in the medical staff and faith in what they believe in. It's such a powerful narrative and one I felt very honored to tell, especially with Ashley Greene Khoury, Russell Quinn and the rest of the amazing cast.'

Filming is already underway in Dallas, Texas.

Who’s playing who

  • Ashley Greene as Cindy Kassis, the family’s mom at the heart of the story
  • Russell Quinn (CSI: NY)
  • Elizabeth Tabish (The Chosen)
  • Andy Buckley (The Office)
  • Roxton Garcia (Heels) - making his feature lead debut

Why this could matter for Ashley Greene

Greene’s most famous run is still Alice Cullen in 'Twilight' (seven total nominations and five wins tied to that role over the franchise, including a Teen Choice nomination and two Scream nods back in 2008). After that, she gravitated toward more serious, lower-profile projects and the mainstream heat cooled a bit. 'One In A Million' has that awards-friendly setup - true story, heavy emotion, moral spine - so if the film lands, it could be a real momentum reset for her. No guarantees, obviously, but the ingredients are there.

Odds and ends

'One In A Million' explores faith under pressure without pretending the odds aren’t brutal. That mix can be tricky to pull off; we’ll see if Beard and company can thread it.

If you want a refresher on Greene’s breakout era, the 'Twilight' films are streaming on Hulu in the U.S.
