Ariana Grande's Divorce and Cheating Scandal, Explained
The star is in a new relationship already.
This year has been replete with celebrity divorces: Kevin Costner and Christina Baumgartner, Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner. It's as if they all conspired to try and get divorced in the same year. Ariana Grande and her soon-to-be ex-husband, Dalton Gomez, have also recently jumped on the bandwagon and filed for divorce.
Grande and Gomez initially hooked up at the start of 2020, but the couple tried to keep a low profile. Their relationship was unveiled in a music video for Stuck With U, which Grande recorded with Justin Bieber during the recent pandemic to raise funds for the families of medical workers affected by COVID-19. Ariana and Dalton went on to marry in May 2021 in a private ceremony. Now, they are getting divorced amid rumors of infidelity.
Cheating Involved?
The popular singer and her husband of two years were rumored to have been separated for months before they officially filed for divorce earlier this week. While their divorce papers, submitted within a day, cite irreconcilable differences, many fans suspect there was infidelity on Ariana's part.
Primarily, this rumor originates from the fact that Grande has openly been in a relationship with her Wicked co-star Ethan Slater, who also filed for divorce from his wife Lilly Jay earlier this year. The two met on the film's set, and Ariana bonded with Slater and his family. Naturally, this doesn't reflect well on either of the stars.
Allegations Denied
However, representatives for Grande and Slater insist that both stars separated from their spouses before becoming involved with each other. At the same time, the two allegedly moved in together while they were still technically married to other people. To make matters worse, Ariana hadn't yet filed for divorce at that time.
Fortunately, both divorces seem to be moving along fairly amicably as the parties involved have reached some form of understanding. But things seem a bit more challenging for Slater and his wife, as the two have a one-year-old son and will need to agree on shared custody, which the actor is seeking.
We can only hope the stars and their ex-spouses manage to resolve the situation peacefully and with minimal drama.
