Apple TV wasted no time: Emma Thompson’s mystery thriller Down Cemetery Road scored a swift season two renewal just two days after its 8-episode first season wrapped, fresh off a Certified Fresh 79% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Apple TV+ clearly did not want to keep us waiting. The streamer just renewed 'Down Cemetery Road' for Season 2 a mere two days after Season 1 wrapped its eight-episode run. Not a bad vote of confidence for a show that finished its debut with a 79% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Season 2: What they are chasing next

Emma Thompson is back as private investigator Zoë Boehm, with Ruth Wilson returning as Sarah Trafford. The new case kicks off when a woman falls in front of a train. Zoë is called in to look into what seems like a straightforward tragedy, which of course it isn’t. The investigation veers into the sleek, cutthroat world of black market antiquities, and the fallout gets personal for Zoë and Sarah.

No release window yet. Just the renewal and the setup.

'The thought of working with the team again, with wonderful Morwenna Banks in the writer's seat and the indomitable Ruth Wilson, who is the best and most brilliant co-star any aging Dame could desire, is frankly far more than I feel I deserve,' Emma Thompson said about the renewal. 'Zoë Boehm is a punkishly delicious avatar, and I can't wait to pull on her knock-off Doc Martens again.'

Who is making it

The series is written and executive produced by Morwenna Banks, with Natalie Bailey serving as lead director. It is adapted from Mick Herron's novel of the same name — yes, the same Mick Herron behind 'Slow Horses.' Executive producers include Herron and Thompson, alongside 60Forty Films' Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, and Tom Nash.

Season 1 refresher

If you just binged it, you know the vibe: twisty, wry, and surprisingly sharp. Season 1 ran for eight episodes and assembled a solid ensemble around Thompson and Wilson:

  • Adeel Akhtar, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Tom Goodman-Hill, Darren Boyd, Tom Riley, Adam Godley, Sinead Matthews, Ken Nwosu, Fehinti Balogun, and Aiysha Hart

Quick renewal, strong pedigree, new mystery. I’m in — and apparently, so is Apple TV+.
