Apple renews Platonic for a third season, reuniting Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne as Byrne returns fresh off her tour-de-force in If I Had Legs I'd Kick You.

Rose Byrne is on a heater right now: she just turned heads with a bruiser of a drama, and now Apple TV+ is calling her back to one of her best comedy pairings with Seth Rogen. Two very different lanes, both very Byrne.

First: Byrne goes full-tilt dramatic in 'If I Had Legs I'd Kick You'

The new film, produced by Josh Safdie, is exactly the anxiety engine you are imagining if you know Safdie's 'Uncut Gems' or 'Good Time.' It is tense, unflinching, and not exactly a feel-good watch — by design.

JoBlo's Chris Bumbray was all-in on Byrne's turn as Linda and the movie's sweaty intensity:

"Rose Byrne gives a tour-de-force performance as Linda. [...] Produced by Josh Safdie, If I Had Legs I'd Kick You has the same kind of stressful, nightmarish energy evident in Uncut Gems and Good Time. [...] It is not a film I'd call enjoyable, as it is a harrowing journey to go along on, but it is challenging, immersive, and well worth checking out."

Now: 'Platonic' officially returns for Season 3

Apple TV+ has ordered another round of 'Platonic,' reuniting Byrne and Rogen for more midlife chaos. Creators Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco say they are thrilled to jump back in with Apple and Sony and their two leads. Apple TV+ programming chief Matt Cherniss basically called Byrne and Rogen the gold standard for turning midlife crises into belly laughs, and credited Stoller and Delbanco for leveling up in Season 2. Translation: the show is delivering, and Apple wants more.

Where Season 2 left them

The second season rolled out this summer and kept the best-friends energy front and center as Sylvia (Byrne) and Will (Rogen) tried to juggle work stuff, wedding stress, and partners in various states of meltdown. They keep trying to be each other's rock — and yes, sometimes rocks smash things they didn't mean to. It is that kind of show.

  • Season 2 cast: Luke Macfarlane and Carla Gallo
  • Guest stars: Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett
  • Produced by: Sony Pictures Television (Stoller Global Solutions has an overall deal there)
  • Executive producers: Rose Byrne, Nicholas Stoller, Francesca Delbanco, Conor Welch, plus Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver for Point Grey Pictures

Meanwhile, Rogen's other Apple comedy is humming too

Back in May, Apple renewed 'The Studio' for Season 2. It is a satire about a legacy Hollywood movie studio trying to keep the lights on while art and business keep elbowing each other for space. The core cast includes Seth Rogen, Ike Barinholtz, Catherine O'Hara, Kathryn Hahn, and Chase Sui Wonders, with Bryan Cranston popping in as a guest star. The guest list is stacked beyond that: Martin Scorsese, Charlize Theron, Ron Howard, Anthony Mackie, Steve Buscemi, and Olivia Wilde all show up.

So yeah — Byrne is splitting time between a harrowing indie and a no-filter friendship comedy, while Rogen is doubling down at Apple. Not a bad moment for either of them.
