Another Delay: Do Not Expect Stranger Things Season 5 Until 2025
The Hawkins gang will be all grown up when the season premieres.
The Season 4 finale of the insanely atmospheric mix of Lovecraftian horror, Spielbergian sci-fi, and D&D aesthetics that is Stranger Things left us on a nail-biting cliffhanger. Just as we caught a glimpse of the characters' touching reunion, the Vecna-led forces of the Upside Down descended upon Hawkins. Higher stakes, intense drama, and of course, more deadly threats await our favorite heroes in the upcoming Season 5.
But it looks like we won't be seeing the new episodes anytime soon, as the ongoing writers' and actors' strikes have put the show on indefinite hiatus.
While the fifth season was in development long before the strikes and the Duffer brothers apparently had the basic script in place, the WGA-AMPTP dispute put the entire industry on pause, and the Stranger Things production suffered as a result. When the WGA writers hit the picket lines in May, the showrunners came out in support of their colleagues.
'While we're excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike. We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then — over and out,' the Duffers shared on then-Twitter.
10 Shows to Binge If You're Obsessed with Stranger ThingsAs AMPTP chose to ignore the demands of the writers, American actors represented by the SAG-AFTRA union joined the strike in mid-July. So now the industry is expecting the strikes to continue into the fall, and possibly until the end of the year.
But recently, a Stranger Things star shared some encouraging (though not particularly optimistic) news. The new season will surely come out, but we shouldn't expect it until 2025.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jim Hopper actor David Harbour has noted that, although he cannot predict when the conflict will be resolved, he at least knows how long the production for Season 5 is going to take.
'There will be a little bit of a push difference, but Stranger Things 5 will shoot for a year,' the actor stated.
In other words, if production begins in early 2024, the season will be released in 2025 at the earliest. In addition to principal photography, Stranger Things probably requires a long period of post-production, but unfortunately Hopper hasn't revealed how long it may take.
