With Secret Wars speculation running wild, Andrew Garfield is stoking the multiverse again, teasing the Spider-Man crossover he wants to join — a cheeky nod to his No Way Home sleight of hand that has fans buzzing.

Andrew Garfield is back to doing what he does best: smiling, shrugging, and giving just enough of an answer to make Marvel fans go hunting for clues. And yes, it is exactly the kind of dance he did before Spider-Man: No Way Home blew the doors off theaters.

So, is he in Secret Wars?

Garfield sat down with MTV's Josh Horowitz while promoting After the Hunt, and when the Secret Wars question came up, he laughed and kept things vague. Very vague.

"You'll find out! Whatever response I'm having, is it exasperation? Is it? I don't know. You'll find out."

MTV posted the clip on October 8, 2025. Make of that what you will. The movie in question is Avengers: Secret Wars, the Russo Brothers' big capper to Marvel's Multiverse Saga. Given the scale of that thing, him being coy is not exactly surprising.

We have seen this move before

In the run-up to No Way Home, Garfield spent months insisting he was not in it, even tossing off the now-memeable "I'm not the Werewolf." Cut to opening weekend: he and Tobey Maguire swing in and the crowd loses it. So when he dodges again here, fans are understandably suspicious that history might be repeating itself.

Who he wants to team up with

He did not confirm anything, but he did say who he would like to share the screen with if the universe (multiverse?) allows:

  • Hugh Jackman: Garfield says he loves him. Jackman returned as Wolverine in 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine.
  • Tom Hardy's Venom: He called Hardy "a really formidable actor" and said he would be "up for a good time" with that version of the character.
  • The Spider-Verse crew: He shouted out Phil Lord and Chris Miller and said he loves the animated Spider-Verse movies.

About that animated angle

Garfield's Amazing Spider-Man already popped up via archival footage in 2023's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. If Beyond the Spider-Verse (dated for 2027) wants to get weirder, an actual cameo is not out of the question.

Where all this could land on Marvel's calendar

As of now, Marvel's big swing looks like this: Avengers: Doomsday is on deck for December 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. And here is the eyebrow-raiser: Robert Downey Jr. is set to return as Doctor Doom. Yes, that RDJ, now playing Doom. Secret Wars is also expected to rope in the leads from The Fantastic Four: First Steps and a pile of returning Avengers. If Garfield is going to resurface in the MCU sandbox, those two films are the obvious landing spots.
