The Sex and the City spin-off needs to 'balance out the estrogen.'

When HBO's Sex and the City premiered in 1998, it became clear that the female-centered show was destined to become a pop culture phenomenon. Following four adult friends from New York and depicting the ups and downs of their personal and professional lives, the HBO series offered a unique female view on the modern world, and for many fans at the time, this was a truly liberating and empowering experience.

Naturally, SATC became a worldwide sensation, spanning six successful seasons and extending the story with two sequel movies and two TV spin-offs. And while The Carrie Diaries, a SATC prequel that aired on The CW in 2013–2014, was largely ignored by fans of the original series, many people were excited for HBO's sequel show And Just Like That…, which released its first season in 2021 and is currently airing Season 2.

While fans were obviously glad to see the beloved characters back on their screens (with the exception of Kim Cattrall's Samantha), many were somewhat disappointed about a bunch of new characters introduced to the story, all of whom are also women. It looks like the audience is no longer okay with the all-female approach, arguing that the show needs more male characters — and they'd better be hot!

The recently released Episode 4 of Season 2 proves this notion perfectly. In the episode, viewers were treated to a very unusual sight for the SATC sequel: we got to see shirtless Steve, Miranda's neighbor. Although the man is not young, he is obviously fit and brimming with testosterone.

The short scene with Steve excited the audience so much that it became painfully clear that AJLT needs to reconsider its cast of characters, pleasing fans with more hot-looking men.

'Seriously, they need to balance out the estrogen. I'm tired of only watching old women complain about their wealthy lifestyles,' Reddit user complained, to the agreement of others.

In fact, And Just Like That… being a female-centered show is perfectly alright, as it provides a sense of continuity, linking the sequel to the original Sex and the City. However, many fans find it somewhat stale compared to the parent series, and adding some hot male characters certainly would help to mend this problem.

Fortunately, there is hope that Aidan Shaw will slay with his gorgeous physique in the later episodes of And Just Like That… Season 2. Episode 5 will arrive on HBO Max on July 13, 2023.
