All’s Fair goes for the jugular in Episode 5 This Is Me Trying, finally cracking open Sarah Paulson’s Carrington Carr Lane as her courtroom ferocity spills into her private life — raising one brutal question: how far will she go to win?

Ryan Murphy’s legal circus All’s Fair has been juggling courtroom wins and personal trainwrecks since day one. Episode 5, This Is Me Trying, finally cracks open Sarah Paulson’s Carrington ‘Carr’ Lane, and yeah — her fixation on taking down Kim Kardashian’s Allura Grant is starting to look less like strategy and more like a spiral. Spoilers ahead.

Carr’s week from hell

The hour opens with Carr dropping her teenage daughter Amabel (Juliette Mae Diamond) at school on her birthday. It’s brutal: the kid has no friends, no plans, nothing. Instead of sitting with that, Carr throws herself back into her grudge match with Allura.

Cut to an arbitration with client Willow Fallow (Jennifer Morrison), where Carr flat-out melts down. She’s crying in the meeting and bails on the case. The root of it? Years back, Allura and Liberty (Naomi Watts) didn’t invite her to join their firm. That old snub still owns real estate in her head, and it’s bleeding into everything.

The Chase detour, featuring an outdoor shower (?!)

Because this show loves chaos, Carr swings by to see Chase Munroe (Matthew Noszka) — her client and Allura’s ex-husband. After too much wine, we hit a truly baffling outdoor shower moment where Carr is washing his hair like they’re in a shampoo commercial. He leans in for a kiss; she shuts it down. Then she drives home drunk, gets pulled over, and lands a DUI. Great choices all around.

The arrest, the bailout, and a loaded alliance

Post-DUI, Carr calls Alberta Dome (Lorraine Toussaint) to bail her out. Dome arrives with a proposition and zero patience for Allura’s empire.

"I am tired of Allura Grant. Tired of her poaching my high-profile clients and undermining my credibility in court."

Dome swears she has dirt that could crater Allura. Since Carr is already steering Chase’s divorce case against Allura, teaming up with Dome is basically tossing a lit match at a gas spill. Carr is so into it she calls Dome her "my soulmate." Meanwhile, Milan (Teyana Taylor) tells Chase she’s pregnant — and that the baby is hers alone. She wants nothing from him. That little grenade rolls under the table while everyone else sharpens their knives.

So... is Allura the reason Carr is spiraling?

Short answer: sort of. Allura’s success and that old rejection clearly messed with Carr. But the self-sabotage is on Carr: neglecting her daughter, imploding a client meeting, getting entangled with Chase, then catching a DUI, and now partnering with someone who shares her vendetta. This isn’t competitive fire; it’s obsession, and it’s eating her alive.
