All Signs Point to Daredevil: Born Again Reviving a Powerhouse Hero
Luke Cage comeback buzz is surging. After Mike Colter chimed in on Krysten Ritter’s Instagram — as Ritter returns as Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again season 2 — fans are betting the Harlem hero will join Charlie Cox’s vigilante in the next chapter.
Marvel fans are doing that thing we all do now: reading tea leaves from an Instagram comment. This time, it is Mike Colter, and one cryptic emoji, setting off a fresh round of Luke Cage comeback talk.
The spark: one emoji
Krysten Ritter posted a photo confirming she is back as Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, captioned: "First look! Guess who's back!" Underneath, Mike Colter dropped a single eyes-looking-right emoji. As of now, his blink-and-you-miss-it reply has 1,102 likes. Not nothing.
If this all feels a little silly, you are not wrong. But with Jessica Jones and Charlie Cox's Daredevil now playing in the MCU sandbox, fans immediately started wondering if Colter's Luke Cage and Finn Jones' Iron Fist are next in line for the same treatment.
Fans connected the dots fast
Colter's comment drew a pile of replies asking for his return, declaring that Luke is next, and calling for Jessica and Luke together again — a nod to their season 1 romance on Jessica Jones. It is the kind of groundswell Marvel definitely sees, even if nobody is ready to say anything official yet.
Quick refresher on Luke Cage
- 2015: Colter debuted as Luke Cage on Jessica Jones season 1.
- 2016–2018: Headlined his own Netflix series for two seasons.
- 2017: Co-led the miniseries The Defenders with Ritter's Jones, Cox's Daredevil, and Finn Jones' Iron Fist.
Is Marvel actually moving on this?
Nothing is confirmed. Marvel Studios has not announced a Luke Cage return anywhere. That said, the person who would know — Brad Winderbaum, Marvel's Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation — told Entertainment Weekly the studio is actively looking at it.
Marvel is "very much exploring" bringing back Luke Cage and Iron Fist.
Where Mike Colter stands
Earlier this year at Indiana Comic Con, Colter kept the door cracked, saying he still has hopes, he does not think about it much anymore, and it is not impossible — anything can happen. Classic cautious optimism.
The read
One emoji is not confirmation, and I would not bet the house on it. But Ritter showing up in Born Again Season 2, Winderbaum publicly saying they are looking into Cage and Iron Fist, and Colter playing along on social media — it all points to Marvel at least warming up the idea. If Luke Cage is coming back, this is exactly what the breadcrumb trail would look like.
