All aboard for a fresh jolt of terror: The Conjuring masterminds Chad and Carey Hayes are reuniting with The Conjuring 2 star Frances O'Connor for Train, a new thriller that puts this proven scare team back on track.

Conjuring fans, here’s a fun one: the Hayes brothers — Chad and Carey — are finally stepping behind the camera. Variety says the duo is making their feature directorial debut with a thriller called 'Train', and the first person on board is Frances O'Connor, who you probably remember from 'The Conjuring 2'.

Who’s driving this thing

'Train' is coming together at Bronte Studios with producers Blake Northfield and Michelle Krumm. Plot details? Totally locked up for now. All we’ve got is: Hayes brothers, thriller, and a reunion with O'Connor. Honestly, that’s enough to get my curiosity going.

A quick Conjuring refresher

The Hayes twins wrote the original 'The Conjuring' — sole screenwriting credit — then came back for 'The Conjuring 2' with story credit alongside director James Wan and shared screenplay credit with Wan and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. They weren’t involved with 'The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It' and aren’t on 'The Conjuring: Last Rites' either, which makes this new project a nice surprise: they’re not just writing it — they’re directing.

"We're thrilled to be making our directorial debut with Train, in partnership with the incredible team at Bronte Studios. After years of writing, developing, and living inside the industry, we're excited to finally put all that experience behind the camera. This story has everything we love about our genre and can't wait to bring this one to life."

"The Hayes Brothers are known worldwide as the creators of some of the most successful horror films in history; now it's their turn to direct. We are beyond thrilled to be producing their directorial debut and incredibly excited to have Frances O'Connor cast. We're looking forward to introducing this film to the marketplace."

Inside baseball angle

This is one of those industry full-circle moments: after decades of writing and developing horror, the Hayes brothers are finally calling the shots themselves. Also, deep cut: as actors, they popped up in the 1986 BMX cult classic 'Rad'. Yes, really.

  • Other Hayes credits: 'The Turning', 'The Crucifixion', 'The Reaping', 'Whiteout', and the 'House of Wax' remake — with credits going back to 1990.

We don’t know what 'Train' is about yet, but the combo of the Hayes brothers making their first feature as directors and Frances O'Connor back in their orbit makes this one worth watching. I’m in. You?
