All 4 Avengers Movies, Ranked by Reddit From Worst to Best
How do you rank the most popular franchise in history?
There was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable characters and see if it could become the highest-grossing franchise in cinematic history.
The idea for the Marvel Cinematic Universe began in 2008, but the true beginning of their connected franchise began with 2012's Avengers. Over the next six years, the entire franchise built up to the epic two-part finale to the Multiverse Saga with Infinity War and Endgame.
Since then, fans have debated on ranking the four Avengers films. Here's how Reddit has them ranked.
4. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
While fans believed Age of Ultron 'upped the ante in the action' compared to Avengers, the 2015 blockbuster was a clear step back. It lasted a little longer than it needed to, with some fans saying it was too convoluted.
AoU's best aspect was retroactive; it's incredibly rewatchable after seeing the consequences of the Avengers' actions, both cosmically and in terms of the Sokovia Accords.
As always, there are dissenters. A few ranked it higher than the first Avengers, though they knew they were in the minority.
3. Avengers (2012)
The one that started it all. People praised its characterization and the smoothness with which each character was integrated - something that's proven difficult in creating shared universes. Some fans rank it even higher. Though it had fewer characters and relatively lower stakes than the later films, it was absolutely groundbreaking upon release. It was also the key to success for MCU and Marvel as a whole; if it had failed, Disney would have scrapped everything.
Some have said it aged poorly, especially in terms of CGI. Others criticized its simplistic plot. But when it comes to nostalgia, nothing beats the original.
2. Avengers: Endgame (2019)
It's universally hailed as the greatest theater experience of all time, and it had the box office to prove it. It broke Avatar's record for the highest-grossing film of all time, though Avatar took back the title after re-releases. It was cleverly broken into three distinct acts, keeping its three-hour runtime from being overbearing.
It also had the first true total team-up, with every single living hero we've ever seen joined together in an epic battle.
For some, the clear fanservice rubbed them the wrong way. Its time-travel elements felt like a retread to some.
1. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
It's been called a perfect movie. There's no extra fat, no missed jokes, a fully developed plot.
Beyond the exceptional action sequences, fans said the drama of the film brought it to the top of the list. Each character had their share of trauma to deal with, a reason to personally hate Thanos. And when the final credits rolled - half of our heroes dusted out of existence - every theater was silent.
The vast majority of Reddit users ranked Infinity War at the top. Those who disagreed complained about the sidelining of major characters (Cap, Black Panther, Black Widow) and the prioritization of flashy action over logic.
