Gear up: Season 6 of Virgin River is not going to be here for a long time.

Virgin River returns in just one week after a hiatus of over a year. Season 5 will be split into two parts, with the first ten episodes arriving on Netflix on September 7, followed by two holiday specials on November 30.

While the later-than-usual premiere date and two-part release initially raised some questions in the show's massive fandom, fans are now thankful to have so much Virgin River content coming their way. You see, after that, we are in for a serious dry spell, as the future of Season 6 is up in the air.

Alexandra Breckenridge, who plays everyone's favorite lead Mel Monroe, recently took to her Instagram Stories to confirm that viewers shouldn't expect Season 6 of the beloved romantic drama anytime soon. Production on the season hasn't even started yet.

Mel Monroe actress addresses her followers

Breckenridge addressed her one million followers, emphasizing that she was not on the set of Virgin River Season 6 and apologizing to them for the somewhat muted promotional campaign for Season 5 due to the SAG-AFTRA strike and the union's prohibition of its members from engaging in any promotional activities.

'SAG is on strike and I can't go back to work and I can't even talk about work,' the actress said. 'So, if all y'all are trying to send me messages asking about work-related things, I can't answer you and I'm really sorry about that.'

The Virgin River star shared that this feels unusual to her, even though she is not an enthusiast of interviews or too much public attention.

'I can't post anything, I can't promote anything. It's very weird. I'm not usually somebody who likes doing a lot of promotion or interviews just because it can be rather daunting and stressful,' she said.

When can we expect Season 6?

Unfortunately, it's impossible to say when Season 6 will premiere just yet. Filming was supposed to start in July, but the Hollywood strikes delayed production indefinitely.

Annette O'Toole, who plays Hope, promised on her Instagram page in May that production would start as soon as the strikers and the studios reached a fair deal.

'We're going to film Season 6 as soon as the strike is settled,' she wrote.

There's no telling when that will happen, so Virgin River fans are in for a long wait. Luckily, we have the whole season and two specials ahead of us.
