The actors are much older than they look.

Stranger Things became an instant phenomenon in 2016 and has been in production for seven years now, even though the plot's timeline spans only about two and a half years.

In Season 4 especially, our favorite actors no longer resemble teenagers. The actual age difference between the actors and their characters may surprise you.

Eleven — 14 vs 19

El was born in 1971, making her 14 years old at the time of the events in Season 4. Millie Bobby Brown, who portrays her, turned 19 in February of this year. What's particularly surprising is that the actress is already engaged, while Eleven is just beginning to understand love.

Mike — 14 vs 20

Mike was born on April 7, 1971, which means he will turn 15 during the second half of Season 4. Finn Wolfhard, the actor and musician who plays him, is already 20! Remarkably, he looks more like a 14-15 year old on the show than anyone else.

Will — 14 vs 18

Will is Mike's classmate, whose barber is, arguably, the real monster of the series, so it's not surprising that he is also 14. Actor Noah Schnapp was born in 2004 and is currently 18. He will turn 19 on October 3.

Dustin — 14 vs 21

Gaten Matarazzo, who portrays Dustin, turned 21 on September 8 of this year. Despite this, he still perfectly embodies the role of a sweet, nerdy 14-year-old.

Max — 15 vs 21

It's worth noting that Max turned 15 on March 27, which is also her birthday in the series. Max seems wise beyond her years, a trait that likely stems from Sadie Sink's mature charisma. The actress is now 21.

Lucas — 15 vs 21

Among all the members of the main group, Lucas is the oldest at 15. Actor Caleb McLaughlin is also the oldest among them; he was born in 2001 and will turn 22 on October 13.

Robin — 18 vs 25

Maya Hawke, the actress who plays Robin, was born on July 8, 1998, making her seven years older than her character.

Nancy and Jonathan — 17–18 vs. 27 and 28

These two truly excel at portraying high school students. Natalia Dyer is now 28, while her co-star who plays Jonathan, Charlie Heaton, is 29.

Steve — 18–19 vs 31

Steve is only a year older than Nancy and Jonathan, but actor Joe Keery is 31. He does pull off the sailor suit with aplomb, though.

Are they good at playing teens?
