Daredevil star Charlie Cox shuts down Spider-Man 4 rumors, saying he won't be back.

Charlie Cox says he is not popping up in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. If that gives you deja vu after the whole No Way Home secret-cameo era, you are not alone. Here is what he actually said, why everyone assumed otherwise, and where the new Spidey movie stands right now.

Charlie Cox shuts it down (for now)

Speaking with Brandon Davis at New York Comic Con, Cox addressed the chatter that he is in the next Spider-Man movie because production has been spotted around the UK.

"I know that they all think I'm in Spider-Man because I'm filming something in London, which I'm not... I'm not in Spider-Man."

When asked if he is in Avengers: "No."

Worth noting: the wording there is a little tangled. The rumor mill tied him to Brand New Day because that movie is shooting across the UK right now. Either way, he is emphatic about not being in Spider-Man or the next Avengers. Also worth noting: the last time Spider-Man cameos were a thing, multiple actors swore they were not in the movie until they were. So file this under wait and see.

Why people thought he was in it

Brand New Day has been filming in the UK, including London and Glasgow. Cox has already stepped back into the MCU once with Spider-Man: No Way Home and is currently back in the suit for Daredevil: Born Again. Add in that Jon Bernthal is back as the Punisher, and fans put two and two together fast. Maybe too fast.

What is actually locked in for Brand New Day

  • Tom Holland is back as Peter Parker.
  • Zendaya returns as MJ.
  • Jacob Batalon returns as Ned Leeds.
  • Sadie Sink has joined in a mystery role.
  • Mark Ruffalo is possibly/said to be returning as the Hulk.
  • Production is underway in the UK, including London and Glasgow.
  • Release date: July 31, 2026.

About that Hulk solo movie

Even if Ruffalo does show up in Spider-Man 4, do not expect a standalone Hulk film to follow. He recently explained that the character’s solo movie rights are still tied up with Universal, and he is not confident that a new one will happen. He is game if they can crack it, but he also pointed out there have already been plenty of Hulk movies and the rights situation is the sticking point.

Bottom line: Cox says he is out on Brand New Day and Avengers. Given the history of denials in this corner of the MCU, I would not bet the rent either way. We will find out when Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters July 31, 2026.
