After Heart-Breaking Season 2 Ending, The Bear Fans Expect More Levity From Season 3
The show has gotten too dark to enjoy at this point.
Summary
- The Bear has tackled many social issues, but it's taken a toll on the show.
- Many viewers were upset by the darkness of the show's second season ending.
- The audience fears that season 3 might be just as gruesome.
It's been almost half a year since the release of The Bear's second season, but it remains the talk of the town among fans. Centered on Carmy Berzatto, a Michelin-starred restaurant chef who inherits a sandwich shop following a family tragedy, the show has explored many gruesome themes since its debut in 2021, including addiction, dysfunctional families, and suicide. At the same time, The Bear has also provided viewers with plenty of comic relief.
Nevertheless, Season 2 of The Bear seems to have underperformed among fans. The reason is simple. While viewers were mostly happy to get another installment of the FX/Hulu comedy-drama, many were heartbroken by the way Season 2 wrapped up. Now that Season 3 is on its way, many are hoping that the new installment will be lighter in tone than the last one.
Season 2 Drama
While Season 1 of The Bear focused primarily on Carmy's struggles to run his late brother's run-down sandwich shop, dealing with unruly staff, and the trauma of his brother's suicide, Season 2 focused on the drama surrounding the Berzetto family and the characters' relationships. And while these themes aren't as somber as those of the first installment, many fans felt that the second season put a lot more pressure on them.
In a way, the big family conflict of Season 2 feels too 'real,' something we've all experienced at some point in our lives, and aside from great acting and a great script, that's something viewers usually want to avoid when watching TV.
Naturally, audiences would like to see a lighter third installment of the show, which seems to have forgotten that it's a comedy-drama at its core.
The Bear Season 3 Announcement and Reactions
Just recently, the show was renewed for a third season by FX and Hulu. According to the announcement, The Bear's third installment will premiere sometime in 2024. It is still uncertain whether it will be in June, traditional for the show as both existing seasons were released in that month, as the SAG-AFTRA strike is still in effect. But fans are already making predictions about the upcoming season.
" I'm going to put in an order for blood pressure medication just to have it on hand when this comes out," wrote one Redditor, ironically referencing the dramatic ending of Season 2.
Hopefully, The Bear Season 3 will indeed be less gruesome and dark and bring some levity to our lives. After all, this show has a lot of comedic potential.
