Adolescence fans will have to hold their breath—after a Golden Globes sweep, series co-creator and star Stephen Graham has revealed that while a second season of the Netflix crime drama is in the works, it could be some time before viewers see new episodes hit their screens.

So, if you fell hard for Adolescence on Netflix — and judging by all the awards, you were far from alone — you’re probably itching for news on Season 2. Well, brace yourself for a long wait, because even the people making the show seem unsure when, or even if, it’s coming back.

Stephen Graham: Season 2? Maybe… Someday…

Let’s jump right to the latest. Stephen Graham — who not only stars in but co-created Adolescence — just addressed the big Season 2 question backstage at this year’s Golden Globes. His answer? Not exactly what fans were hoping for.

"I cannot answer that question because it’s somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind and Jack’s mind, and we’ll pull it out in three or four years, so stay tuned."

So, if you were hoping for new episodes next year (or even the year after), you might want to reset those expectations. Apparently, there’s no script, no outline — probably not even a title on a Google Doc. At best, Season 2 is floating around as a very abstract idea.

Award Magnet That Started as a 'Limited Series'

The irony? This hesitancy is happening after Adolescence won four Golden Globes, including:

  • Best Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television
  • Best Actor in a Limited Series (Stephen Graham)
  • Best Supporting Actor on Television (Owen Cooper)
  • Best Supporting Actress on Television (Erin Doherty)

Not bad for a series that was never meant to get a second season in the first place. Netflix still officially lists it as a ‘limited series’, so it wasn’t designed with a follow-up in mind.

But here’s where things get a little Hollywood: reports popped up (looking at you, Deadline in April 2025) that Plan B Entertainment — yes, the Brad Pitt company — has been kicking around ideas for a continuation.

Conflicting Signals from the People in Charge

If you’re confused, you’re not alone. Stephen Graham already said, back in May 2025, that a follow-up is 'still a possibility.' But then director Philip Barantini, who directed all four episodes of the first season, poured a glass of cold water on that, saying a continuation isn’t likely (though he wouldn’t mind working with everyone on a totally different project).

Quick Recap: What Adolescence Actually Is

For those who started reading just for the drama: Adolescence centers on Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper), a 13-year-old kid who gets arrested after the death of one of his classmates. Stephen Graham plays Jamie’s dad, Eddie. Erin Doherty rounds out the main trio as Briony Ariston.

The Bottom Line

Right now, Adolescence Season 2 is one of those classic TV ‘maybes’. The creators aren’t ruling it out, but they’re definitely not promising anything soon. If anything changes, I’ll be as surprised as you are.
